2 2 Scope of the Case Study The study was carried out referring to DIN EN ISO Life cycle assessment. In scope are the input and output values for Water, Energy and Chemicals needed for coloration processes along the value chain for PET Fibers. Out of scope are possible differences in the production processes of Dyes and Pigments used in the different coloration processes. The production process of PET chips was not integrated into the study. Only information related to the coloration process have been considered. Several sources and publications have been used as well as an assessment done with external industry partners. The data referring to the Masterbatch production process is based on the sustainability data of our plant in Lahnstein.

3 3 The case study was carried out by Hochschule Niederrhein The Hochschule Niederrhein (HN) has around 12,600 students, of which some 3,096 are first-year students (as per Winter Semester 2012/13), making it one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany. Today, the HN is a regional university with a national and international reputation. An above average proportion of women (49%) and foreigners (12%) are enrolled at the Hochschule Niederrhein. The foreign students come from some 100 countries. The ten faculties at the Hochschule Niederrhein are located at the campus in Krefeld or in Mönchengladbach. Textile and Clothing Technology is based in Mönchengladbach.

4 4 Our external industry partners for the study Encompassing its brands AUNDE, ISRINGHAUSEN and Esteban, comprises of more than 80 plants, in 25 countries. Yarns, technical fabrics, textile and leather seat covers, as well as complete seats are designed, developed and produced for the world s leading car manufacturers. With in-house Bath dyeing facilities as well as Spin dyeing at Technofibre SA in Luxembourg. Founded by Bernhard Thies at the turn of the industrial age in 1892 Thies remains today a family-owned and -operated company. An internationally active company with more than 400 employees in its home base of Coesfeld, Thies offers to its customers, and interested textile companies access to their Research and Dyehouse facilities in which trials can be carried out. As one of the first companies to introduce Quality Management Systems based on DIN EN ISO 9001, Thies continues to strictly observe and follow these guidelines. A worldwide sales and service network developed over many years ensures efficient customer service and support.

6 6 Bath Dyeing processes The EU Enquete Commission defines 2 processes for bath dyeing as the best available technologies.
