This is an emergency posting in accordance with the Collective Agreement between The Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 (Unit 3). In accordance with the Collective Agreement, this posting is being sent as an notification to all applicants in the Department s Applicant Pool: all Sessional Lecturers who are teaching for the Department during the current academic year or who have taught for the Department since September 1, 2005, and all persons who have submitted an application within the past twenty-four months. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12. All pool members who wish to be considered for a particular position must submit an application and updated curriculum vitae, ten examples of recent work, and if possible, examples of student work, all compiled in one PDF file to Professor William Bowen, Chair of the Department of Arts, Culture, and Media, University of Toronto Scarborough using the online application system found at Salary: in accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the stipend rate for a half course (Y, F or S), inclusive of vacation pay, will be: Sessional Lecturer I: $7, Sessional Lecturer I Long Term (Six or more years as SL I): $7, Sessional Lecturer II: $7, Sessional Lecturer III: $8, Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Hours Duties Winter 2018 VPSA62H3S Foundation TU 2-5 Studies in Studio An introduction to the importance of content and context in the making of contemporary art. L02 TH 2-5 L03 FR 11-2 Qualifications have expertise in teaching introductory level studio courses and have teaching and exhibition experience in two or more of the following areas: sculpture, textbased art, performance, and site specific work. 2 L30 TH 5:30-8:30 knowledge of contemporary and conceptual art practices is required. Must have an active practice and an exhibition history in a range of contexts. VPSB58H3S Video I An introduction to the basic principles of video shooting and editing as well as an investigation into different conceptual strategies of video art. The course will also provide an introduction to the history of video art. VPSB59H3S Sculpture I This course introduces students to the use of three-dimensional materials and processes for creating sculptural objects. Traditional and nontraditional sculptural WE 2-5 WE 10-1 have expertise in teaching the fundamentals of digital video art production including: shooting video with camcorders and DSLR cameras, video lighting, grip setups, microphone use, and audio recording for video. Comprehensive knowledge in video editing with Premiere CC, Audition CC, After Effects CC, and other video related software in an Apple environment is required. Knowledge of audio mixing, codecs, professional output for a range of presentation formats including digital screens and online streaming is required. A contemporary and conceptual art practices as it relates to video is required. Instructor must have an active practice with video as the primary part of that practice. 3 methodologies and concepts will be explored. VPSB61H3S Painting I An investigation of the basic elements and concepts of painting through experimentation in scale and content. TU 10-1 a range of power and hand tools; diverse knowledge of general additive and subtractive construction techniques with a range of materials; intermediate to advanced knowledge and technical experience with woodworking in a woodshop; introductory to intermediate knowledge of processes related to silicone mould making. The Fabrication Labs at UTSC place an emphasis on health and safety. Knowledge of and ability to teach safe practice is needed along with a current WHMIS standing. A comprehensive knowledge of contemporary and conceptual art practices as it relates to sculpture is required. Instructor must have an active practice with sculpture, installation, and object-making as the primary part of that practice. An exhibition history in a range of contexts such as gallery and site is required. have expertise in teaching the fundamentals of painting and related practices. A contemporary and conceptual art practices as it relates to painting is required. Instructor must have an active practice with painting as the primary part of that practice. 4 VPSB71H3S Artist Multiples Artist multiples are small, limited edition artworks that include sculptures, artist books, mass-produced ephemera such as posters, postcards and small objects. Students will explore the production and history of 2D and 3D works using a variety of media and approaches. This course is about both making and concepts. MO 2-5 university level and expertise in the area of contemporary 2D & 3D processes required to produce artist multiples. This includes ability to work effectively in a general purpose Fabrication Lab equipped with a range of power and hand tools; introductory to intermediate knowledge of processes related to silicone mould making; low-tech nontoxic print approaches and familiarity with low-cost manufacturing options. Experience with shop health and safety protocols is an asset. VPSB90H3S Digital Animation II A project based course, building upon concepts developed in VPSB89H3 Introduction to Digital Animation. Students will refine their control of sound, movement, and image quality. This course will also introduce threedimensional wire frame and ray-tracing techniques for constructing convincing 3-D animated objects and scenes as they apply to TU 2-5 A contemporary and conceptual art practices as it relates to artist multiples is also necessary. Candidate must have an active art practice in the area of artist multiples, with a strong exhibition history. The successful candidate must have experience teaching at a University or College and be versed in Adobe CS5 software especially Photoshop, Premiere, AfterEffects and Soundbooth. The use of video cameras and lighting equipment as well as video capable DSLRs with optional intervalometers for time lapse and claymation projects is required. Must be able to do green screen and typographic animation. Some experience with 3-D construction by way of Photoshop and AfterEffects is an Page 4 of 5
5 contemporary artistic practices. VPSC66H3S Theory and Practice: Two-Dimensional Work An exploration of ideas and practice with an emphasis on two-dimensional work, including digital imaging.
