After all, the home appliances that our customers manufacture from our polycarbonates and polycarbonate blends can only be as good as our materials. It is therefore important for the quality of our materials to meet a wide variety of requirements: exceptional thermal stability, transparency, strength, stiffness and flame retardance are standard properties in our polycarbonates (Makrolon and Apec ) and polycarbonate blends (Bayblend and Makroblend ). These materials are, for example, capable of replacing metal and glass in an increasing number of applications. The result is components offering greater durability, serviceability and safety as well as wider creative freedom for modern design! Our network doesn t miss a trend. 4 [ Our most important material standard is ongoing development ] Materials from Bayer Material- Science are guaranteed eco-friendly, even when it is time to dispose of an appliance. Our materials not only meet our customers requirements, they also comply with established ecological and fire protection standards. Very stringent fire safety demands are imposed on modern plastics. Just recently, the criterion for the flammability of plastic parts in unsupervised domestic appliances was stepped up dramatically in Standard IEC However, fulfilling these requirements is important for reasons other than technical safety. For example, the fact that Bayblend FR easily passes the glow wire test to IEC (with a GWFI of 960 C at a test specimen thickness of two millimeters) saves processors the complex and expensive task of testing finished components. The ecological compatibility of new products made of plastic is another increasingly significant issue. For white goods and many other domestic appliances, our portfolio of materials includes high-performance alternatives to ABS and HIPS (high impact polystyrene), whose flame retardance packages usually contain chlorine or bromine. Decabromodiphenyl ether (decabde), a flame retardant frequently used in ABS and HIPS, was recently even banned throughout the EU. In contrast, the flame retardance packages of Bayblend, Makrolon and Apec apart from a few necessary exceptions contain no chlorine, bromine or antimony. They meet the EU Directives WEEE and RoHS and need not be recycled separately when disposed of by manufacturers. In other words, you can develop and plan with our materials well into the future. [ Did you know + ] that flame retardant grades of Bayblend, Makrolon and Apec demonstrate outstanding fire retardance? that Bayblend FR at 1.5 millimeters fulfils the Class V-0 specifications of Standard IEC , which is comparable to the US safety standard UL 94 from Underwriters Laboratories?

The general advantages of our materials are their high-level mechanical and electrical properties and their ease of processing. What s more, our varied materials combine different properties to perform targeted tasks and tap into new fields of application: Don t lose control. Bayblend boasts good thermal stability, high impact and notched impact strength, stiffness and dimensional stability. For example, some grades of Bayblend are impact resistant down to 50 C! Keep a clear view in every situation. Makrolon and Apec stand out with a combination of high transparency, strength and heat resistance. Makrolon can be used at up to 130 C and Apec even up to 200 C for short periods. Be firm. Makroblend displays outstanding low-temperature impact resistance and heat resistance, hardly any tendency towards stress cracking and good chemical resistance. Compared with polyamides, it absorbs very little moisture.

They are part of our everyday lives and an expression of personal taste. Colors and optical effects are critical to successful product design. We therefore market Makrolon, Apec, Bayblend and Makroblend in custom colors, and we are constantly developing new colors and effects in response to current trends in design and fashion. Our Color Competence and Design Centers form the organizational basis for this service. At these centers, we match colors for customers and produce small quantities of colored granule samples. With our network of Color Competence and Design Centers in the United States, Italy, India, China and Thailand, we are present in all key markets and capable of delivering products in the desired color and color quality to customers all over the world. Specifically with designers in mind, we have established our Fantasia TM technology program for coloring plastic parts. In addition to well over 100 visual and tactile effects, it encompasses five coordinated basic technologies.
