1 List some of the buildings that were important to the ancient Egyptians: What purposes did those buildings serve? How were those buildings constructed? Who was responsible for their creation? MAKING CONNECTIONS: What architecture in our current time can be compared to the ancient Egyptian buildings? (Do we have similar types of buildings? Do we have buildings that are used for the same purposes?) EXTENSION: How long do you think it would take to build a pyramid in our current time period? (Suggestion: think about the kinds of construction equipment that could be used to help speed up the process of building a pyramid.) Be prepared to support your hypothesis with facts from your research.

2 List some of the animals that were important to the ancient Egyptians: Choose one or two animals from your list. Why was that animal so important? What evidence is there that illustrates the Egyptians relationships to/with animals? ANALYSIS: Complete the Venn diagram below to compare and contrast the animal s role in society. 4 Describe (in words, an illustration, or in chart form) the social structure set up in ancient Egypt. Describe the type of government (Who was in charge? How was that person chosen? What role did the government play in the daily lives of the citizens?) What kinds of jobs were there? How was the family structure the same/different than that of today? Research the typical foods found in ancient Egypt and make a list of things that might have been part of a traditional Egyptian meal at that time. EXTENSION: What are some ways that our current society is similar to that of ancient Egypt?

6 List the steps for mummification: Why was the mummification process such a critical part of ancient Egyptian culture? There were differences in after-death-rituals performed based on social structure. Why would certain classes receive different treatment after they had died? Support your answer with facts from your research. There are numerous instances where mummified animals have been found on/near a mummified person. What was the significance/reason for including an animal in a tomb? What kinds of items would be placed in a temple/tomb of a dead pharaoh? What was the significance of each item?

7 What physical features allowed Egypt to emerge as one of the most successful civilizations in history? How were those features beneficial? (Suggestion in addition to the green tiles on Symbaloo, look at a map in the textbook). Complete the table below about the Nile River: PROS (good things) CONS (bad things) Not all of ancient Egypt had desirable living conditions. List some of the geographical features that could make Egyptian life difficult. List some statistics/facts about the Nile River: How long is the river? What direction does it flow? Where does it start and end? What is it used for? The Nile is home to what kids of animals? EXTENSION: What bodies of water do we (the USA) rely on for survival? How do we use them? Your opinion must be supported by facts from your research.

What was its purpose? (Did it serve a religious purpose? Did it help in other areas of Egyptian life?) Who would use it? (Is it something that all classes of people would need/use?)
