1 2 nd YEAR 6007 Prehistoric Societies GENERAL G2 - Providing general training to prepare graduates with the appropriate theory, methodology and instrumental knowledge to approach social processes with a global and an integrated focus; G4 - Acquiring rational and critical knowledge of the history of Humanity, to enable the contribution of a historical perspective to the analysis of the social problems; G7 - Acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary for postgraduate specialized or transdisciplinary studies and research, relating to Human History, Heritage and Evolution. SPECIFICS: CE 1 - Extraction of historic results from scientific information CE 2 - Explaining the Prehistoric ways of life (lifestyle) led by human societies CE 3 - Understanding the dynamics of social change 6008 Modern History: Monarchies and Empires - The student will acquire general knowledge on History of the Modern World which will include the appropriate theory, methodology and instrumental knowledge for a global and integrated focus on the processes and problems of said period in history. The aim is to adopt a rational and critical understanding of the Modern Age and, by extension, the historic discourse of humanity. - The students will develop skills and expertise that enable graduates to know where and how to gather information, process and analyse it with rigour, then communicate it in an orderly, precise and concise fashion History of Modern Art - To know the genesis and characteristics of the Artistic manifestations of the Modern World: from 16 th to 18 th centuries. 2 nd Year 1/6

2 - To analyse the Artistic manifestations of the western Modern World, the determining factors and the evolution of forms. - To learn to comment on and to classify the works they have studied in an appropriate way. - To learn to make correct use of concepts, categories and user-defined methods of the Arts Historian Palaeography - To know the writing systems used in the documents and codices from the 11 th to the 17 th centuries. - Achieve an acceptable level of readability of any text belonging to the period indicated. - Acquire the basic knowledge of reading and understanding of records written in the Spanish of the Medieval and Modern eras through palaeographic practices; and, as a result, facilitate direct research into archive and library collections th Century History 1 - Basic knowledge of the main political, economic, social and cultural events of the 20 th century, up to the present. 2 - Understanding the historic processes and how they relate to the present. 3 - Paying special attention to international relations. 4 Developing the capacity to analyse societies and their transformations, and also developing critical thinking. 5 Develop an understanding of sources and bibliography Contemporary Art Movements - To know the genesis and characteristics of the Artistic manifestations of the Contemporary World. - To analyse the Artistic manifestations of the Contemporary World, the determining factors and the evolution of forms. - To learn to comment on and appropriately classify the works that are studied. - To learn the correct use of concepts, categories and user-defined methods of Art Historians. 2 nd Year 2/6

3 6013 Cultural Anthropology Bachelor s Degree in The student will understand the complex nature of the function of human societies in a holistic cultural sense. This will include knowing the basic concepts of discipline, the Theory of Anthropology and Cultural Diversity through Ethnography and the different procedures of transcultural comparison. It will also encourage an understanding and analysis of the variety of options displayed in human groups with regards to organizing and configuring social life in all its collective aspects. Special attention will be paid to the characterization of ethnography and to evaluating cultural research and its effects in terms of theory, methodology and ethics Techniques and Methods in Field Archaeology -The evaluation of the scope of Archaeological records, as a path to analysis, being able to know and explain processes, transformations and the diversity of past human actions. -The raising of awareness to the radical changes in contemporary archaeological excavation, both in theory as well as in practice. -Understanding the importance of material remains like documents, sources and means of historical knowledge. -The student will know the methods, processes and techniques entailed in archaeological evidence, as a challenge for acquisition of the training as a researcher and specialist in the field of Archaeology. -To understand that the data unearthed through archaeological excavation require an active intellectual process and the intervention of the researchers that are examining the Archaeological Site. -To understand that archaeological excavation is an efficient means of generating critical thinking and discussion. -To train good professionals both for the research fieldwork as well as for the handling and processing. -The students will master the strategies of archaeological excavation, the recording and analysis of stratigraphic archaeology. 4 6015 Prehistoric Technology Bachelor s Degree in General objectives: 1 - Provide general training to prepare the graduates with the appropriate theory, methodology and instrumental knowledge to approach the social processes with a global and an integrated focus. 2 - Acquire rational and critical knowledge of the Humanity s past, to enable the contribution of a historical perspective to the analysis of social problems. 3 - Acquisition of the knowledge and skills necessary for postgraduate specialized or transdisciplinary studies and research, relating to Human History, Heritage and Evolution. Specific objectives At the end of this module the student will be able to: 1 - Define what technology is and the work instruments used during the Prehistoric era 2 - Explain the studies on prehistoric technology based on the different paradigms 3 - Describe the sources to be used in the study of the technology 4 - Identify the different resources (vegetables, minerals and animals) from which the various prehistoric tools were made 5 - Recognize the different techniques employed in making prehistoric tools and their classification 6 - Discuss the evolution of the techniques during the Prehistoric era 7 - Make a carved or sanded stone tool and fit with a handle 8 Start a fire 6016 Prehistory of the Iberian Peninsula General objectives: 1 - To provide the graduates with general information on the theory, methodology and instrumental aspects that should form the basis of global focus. 2 - To develop a rational and critical knowledge of the remote History of Humanity, suggesting a historical perspective of the social problems. 3 - To boost the valid knowledge necessary for admission into specialized or interdisciplinary postgraduate studies, especially those linked with Prehistoric and Archaeological Heritage themes. Specific objectives: At the end of this module the student will be able to: 2 nd Year 4/6

5 1 - Know what the main milestones are for the Prehistoric Era of the Iberian Peninsula. 2 - Understand the basic principles and the methodology that is the basis for the reconstruction of the prehistoric period on our peninsula. 3 - Know the general aspects of evolution in historiography, in reference to the research into the Prehistoric era of the Iberian Peninsula. Module 4: Space and Societies in Contemporary World 6017 Europe and Spain in 19 th Century This module entails the study of the process establishing Contemporaneity in Europe and in Spain up to 1914, analysing the series of changes that made it possible for liberal capitalist societies to be established throughout the 19 th century. Module 5: Methodology and Instrumental Techniques 6018 Theory of the History and Historiographic Schools The review of theories of History and of different perspectives used to construct, remember and utilize history is a magnificent high tower from which to analyse the past and the communication of each past era with its successive "present" which has guided generations towards their respective but often eventful "futures" Historian Skills: Between Practice and Theory Provide general training to prepare the graduates with the appropriate theory, methodology and instrumental knowledge to approach the social processes with a global and integrated focus. Development of skills and competences that enable graduates to know where and how to gather information, process and analyse it with rigour, then communicate it in an orderly, precise and concise fashion Developing theoretical, technical and analytical knowledge and skills that enable them to resolve problems generated by the management and conservation of heritage 2 nd Year 5/6
