PT Timas Suplino was awarded contract to install measures to by-pass the platform! Hallin Marine was awarded a sub-contract to install 9 hot tap assemblies supplied by TD Williamson! Working with Antares Energy Solutions, Hallin Marine developed installation procedures, mobilised marine and subsea resources and successfully carried out the works!!
18 Case Study q Phase 1 - Preparation! Five pipeline and three cable crossings were prepared! Dredged around each hot-tap location and removed the weightcoat at the tapping location! The exposed sections of pipe were inspected for out-ofstraightness, ovality, wall thickness to ensure their suitability for hot-tapping! q Phase 2 Hot-tapping! Equipment checks on deck! Deployment from the construction vessel s crane and positioning by Hallin s divers deployed from the DSV Ullswater! Tapping operation controlled from deck by TDW s technicians! 18

23 Conclusions q A pipeline incident is likely to have a severely detrimental affect on the environment and ecology! q Cost of clean-up and loss of production might be calculated! q The damage to the Company s reputation and its relationship with the host nation could be overwhelming! q A Risk-based Inspection (RBI) management strategy should be designed to ensure the integrity of the pipelines! q Timely attention to anomalies such as freespans, damage to coating and depleted, missing or damaged anodes will reduce the risk of future failure! q Holding critical components/long-lead items and assuring access to key resources and services will allow the Company to react quickly to the requirement for an emergency pipeline repair! 23
24 Recommendations 1 q Hold stock of critical, long-lead components! Pipeline repair clamp! o Should be compatible with pipeline and platform riser! Length of coated pipe! o Say 100m, for fabrication of repair spool! Two pairs of flanges! Three (2+spare) KaMOS, or similar, gaskets! 24
25 Recommendations 2 q Secure rapid access to key tools and materials! Dredging system! Diamond wire cutting system! Weight coat removal tool! Bevelling tool! Grout bags! Subsea services! q Ensure there is a platform to deploy equipment and personnel to carry out repair.! A vessel or barge with deck space and accommodation for personnel will be required for saturation diving and ROV services! 25

Develop an Emergency Response Plan covering;! o Shut down o Rapid inspection spread mobilisation to ascertain the location and extent of any damage o Development of bespoke repair procedures o Repair spread mobilisation o Communication with authorities, local communities and the press Develop repair methodologies! Form a Consortium!! o Share plans, resources and costs with other operators!
