INTERPRETATION CENTER MINING PORTOVELO
Creating an interpretation center to value the miner historical past of Portovelo to safeguard the mining heritage; It will become the main tool to convey the beginnings of mining knowledge of the location to promote a new form of tourism. The mechanical and industrial era replaced the landscape of Portovelo and filled it with infrastructure creating a new social, economic and spatial order. Through an architectural design it is generated a tour by the ruins, equipped with low-cost interactive spaces; in order to create in users authentic sensations where they can see the history of the place. The project rescues culture and working memory; The history focuses on gold, one of the natural resources most coveted by man. The goal is to become the economical, social and cultural development engine, potentiating the local economy. Spaces are designed for the full enjoyment of visitors; center rooms are equipped to provide the interpretation of mining heritage and at the same time visitors can tour and live together in one place. In addition, the contemplation of the whole project, produces great emotions that connect to the aesthetic beauty of the work. The Interpretation Center will become the Portovelo canton embryo of cultural, social and economic development. Getting an identity from the place s historical social point of view; recreational activities, workshops and cultural programs. Inside through museum resources, combining the corporeal, graphic, recreation, tactile, visual, auditory and projection systems, it seeks to develop learning process. By means of educational workshops it is achieved recreate a process related to everyday life. A project with abundant potential in educational and cultural terms. I look with this proposal, the functionality of the building, the convenience of users, but mainly to maintain the originality of the tanks and industrial architecture. They were identified 21 patrimonial assets that may be redeemed. Composed of seven rooms, reception room, interpretation room, SADCO model mining operation living room, rest rooms, recreational area - gold extraction process -, audiovisual room, souvenirs room and cafeteria. In addition, the center design has a car parking, access to the center, the location of the patrimonial assets and space for complementary activities.
Insensitivity, neglect and vandalism have taken a heavy toll to the place; however, it is still possible to see elements that still remain. The project seeks to rescue the Portovelo industrial mining heritage, generated by the mining company, South American Development Company. Through an interpretation center equipped with an outdoor museum route to value as many industrial remains. Great part of the structure does not have the conditions to be restored, however efforts will be made in the restoration of a fraction. Audience segments are: family, adult, school, teacher and expert public. The main center task is to provide the interpretation of mining heritage, offering recreational activities. Integrated value to the rescue of industrial heritage brings; Historical value, material, technological and Aesthetic Processes. -Audiovisual living room The union of four elements will provide a 360 projection making it one of the star center halls, so that the interpretation of historical mining heritage-teaching-learningpresents an educational character, where the visitor or tourist is the protagonist himself in building his own message. By this application is intended to publicize the historicity of mining exploitation SADCO and at the same time the emergence of a parallel village to the mining activity. (approximately duration from eight to ten minutes per session).
- Recreational area, gold extraction process In this room it is intended to incorporate an interactive module that combines the corporeal and tactile systems. Designed for children until 12 years. The activity is based on mining processes for gold extraction (find, extract and process). The child approaches the area where will find the material containing gold, then will extract only the object that contains gold, after that will deposit it in a module that represents the processing plant, whereby the child will get a gold chocolate coin. -Living model, mining exploitation SADCO. In this room it is proposed the presentation of a mining exploitation model SADCO. Through this interactive module, visitors will be able to meet from first hand the start of mining exploitation, construction type, partly the location of the miners houses, but mainly will see the place where the headframe was, industrial element which was a mining symbol in the country for a long time until the company ceased mining activities.
-First outdoor landmark: It is the watermill will be enabled to work when making a guided tour. Second outdoor landmark: Corresponds to the copy of the castle, in front of this element will briefly review explained concepts in the living room two. Third outdoor landmark: Corresponds to the balls mill, it has to be provided an interpretation of the element, explaining how the auriferous material was crushed, its history and the mechanical energy that churned it. - The Mining Portovelo Interpretation Center Presents a cozy, attractive and innovative environment. Spaces are designed for the full enjoyment of the locals, visitors and tourists; center rooms are carefully conditioned to provide the interpretation of mining heritage and at the same time visitors will be able to learn, tour and live together in a place. Besides the contemplation of whole proposed project, produces great emotions that connect to the aesthetic beauty of the work.
- The proposal is to recycle old auriferous material storage tanks, elements on condition of disuse, the incorporation of museology in rooms that facilitate the interpretation is made. An interpretive center plenty of potential in educational and cultural terms. -The Mining Portovelo Interpretation Center will be located on the former site of mining exploitation SADCO. The intervention of this heritage is highlighted by its multidisciplinary and innovative character; the idea of rehabilitating auriferous material storage tanks as the Interpretation Center container, was born after several previous studies with a professional in tourism, aware of the problems posed by this type of intervention, the building presents a very attractive appearance as for design and conservation.
-Copy of the castle Incorporation of outdoors musegraphy, it is intended to incorporate a copy of the mining exploitation famous element SADCO, the castle. This heritage element today no longer exists, there are only pictures that allow to evoke and know what happened in the golden years of mining. Visitors will have access to the roof with the help of a hydraulic lift where will be able to watch and appreciate the city as the cultural equipment. - In each room different museolographic modules systems that combine the corporeal, graphic, recreation, tactile, visual, auditive and design are proposed, but basically all resources are connected to the main theme, to provide the interpretation of the Portovelo industrial mining heritage.
They are used in most of the project dry soils which incorporate thermal insulation plates reducing substantially their energy losses. Cylinders are rehabilitated in the parts that have been lost with the help of iron-cement due to its advantages of thinness, flexibility and endurance, also to adapt to all kinds of weather. For interior divisions and exterior workshops prefabricated Quincha modular panels covered with plaster or cement are used. Many different metal moldings are used to access to the rooms as well as pierced mesh like soffits to immerse the visitor. The metal is the material that was chosen in access and soffits (pierced mesh) that seeks to evoke within a context of a miner. The prices below include the entrance to the interpretation center and route navigation. This type of fixed income will contribute to the financial sustainability of the center. The time spent in the center comprises approximately two hours. Single adult, 2,00 USD Children from 6 to 12 años, 1,50 USD Group of 15 or more people, 1,00 USD Reduced rate for over 65 years and disabled Other fares, booking tours and/or comments or suggestions, approach the Interpretation Center reception. The Portovelo Mining Interpretation Center, will be open Monday through Sunday from 8:00 to 18:00 hours. The proximity that presents the field with yellow river gives the estate a better temperature due to moisture attributed to it. To generate a microclimate in the project a pond that follows the entire perimeter of the storage tanks (rooms) was generated; It improves the temperature as well as being an attraction for visiting children. Unevenness and shape of the project provide the ability to capture as much cross ventilation in outer areas. The cylinders are ventilated through the subsoil by pipes located to a depth of at least 3 meters directed towards the prevailing winds which improve the air temperature leaving them escape through upper openings. Vegetation and unevenness protect containers from received radiation. It is pretended to provide the inclosure constant 20 degrees temperature inside, which must not exceed a difference of 10 in regard to the outside.
