Dr. Devlin will share his experience setting up North America s first fully digital hospital. Collaboration between Industry and Public Sector Leaders is fundamental for achieving meaningful change in our health systems. CCHL will share insights from their experience collaborating with industry and ideas to expand the impact of that work. CAHO will highlight a case study of collaborating in the health care sector to accelerate the implementation of research evidence into practice, and consideration of how that model might apply to technology adoption. New non drug health technologies (such as screening, diagnostic and screening technologies) play an important role in Canadian health systems. However, it is not clear how such technologies are introduced and adopted into the system. This presentation will summarize preliminary findings from a Health funded study which addresses two questions: 1. Who makes decisions in Canadian health institutions on the acquisition of new non drug health technologies? 2. What processes and information are used in making these decisions? The study involved a two step survey/interview approach which included over 50 institutions. Showcasing digital innovative medical technology products and solutions designed to enhance patient care.

It answers the following research question: What is the experience, both within and internationally, of HTA as a tool to provide knowledge for informing decisions on the adoption and appropriate use of pharmaceutical products and medical devices that benefit patients and/or the wider health system, as well as the disinvestment and displacement of pharmaceutical products and medical devices currently used? This presentation will focus on the findings of dozens of interviews with Canadian and international leaders as well as a survey of HTA producers in.

The panel will also address the movement from the current focus on cost to that of value for money as well as restructuring the health system to move patients more seamlessly from hospital to home. This session is designed to provide further insight into the management challenges for the adoption of innovative Medical Technologies and to showcase the projects that some Healthcare providers are undertaking to enable the adoption of valuable innovations. The session will include: Mohamed Abdolell will describe the challenges and successes his company has experienced with the adoption of their products. Gary Ryan will discuss the Health ECOsphere project and what they have achieved. Dr. Blair O Neill will discuss Alberta s Strategic Clinical Networks project. In this session, we will review examples from around the world, and, of processes and/or programs that have been developed in an attempt to better enable the adoption of innovative medical devices by evolving the focus of Procurement of Medical Devices from purchase price to value of outcome (Value for Money). The panel will discuss selected examples of these new procurement models, as well as overview ideas/ practices for the assessment of value for money. Highlights will include a definition of value for money; required focus on patient outcomes / patient
