14 Concept: Every day across the healthcare sector more than a million decisions are made which have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of patients, their carers and families, businesses and communities. Information professionals in the healthcare sector ensure that these decisions are made based on the best available evidence.

15 Concept: The Health and Social Care Act 2012 establishes a duty on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health to ensure the use in the health sector of evidence obtained from research. It also places a responsibility on Clinical Commissioning Groups and healthcare providers to make use of the best available evidence in their decision-making.
