3 What Grainger CEME/IEEE Sponsored Workshop on a Technology Roadmap for Large Electrical Machines Workshop goal: Draft a consensus-based technology roadmap with a 5 10 year time frame for large (1-10MW) electrical machines (that convert electrical energy to mechanical, and vice-versa) and required auxiliaries. Post Workshop: Share results broadly Periodic updates to ensure relevance as technologies and applications evolve Build collaborations to address key technology challenges and gaps 3

Significant progress being made in enabling technologies: new materials, power electronics, manufacturing techniques, etc. Key stakeholders can benefit from expert opinion on projected technology advances in the next decade or so 4

7 Meeting Guidelines The roadmap initiative is an official workshop co-sponsored by the IEEE This exercise shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, including antitrust and competition laws Minutes will be kept, discussions can become public Discussions should be related to fundamental technology issues and broad application needs for MW+ class machines Don t share or discuss any company proprietary information Don t be silent if inappropriate topics are discussed do formally object 7
