2 ND COPEDI FORUM / 2012 The COPEDI (Comitê Brasileiro para Pesquisa, Desenvolvimento e Inovação) members are delighted to invite you for our Forum which will occur on the 1st October at IBP Av. Almirante Barroso, 52 Centro RJ. COPEDI gathers organizations aiming at cooperating on the technology development activities in the offshore sector in Brazil. This cooperation is proposed at the format of JIPs (Joint Industry Projects) which are projects market-oriented that intend to transfer scientific knowledge into new services or tools demanded by the industry. In addition to the benefit generated by putting together universities, technology providers and demanding companies (operators and oil companies), the JIPs represent a powerful tool in optimizing resources, by sharing the costs of the project at the pre-competitive phase. The Forum aims at disseminating the JIPs proposals generated by COPEDI members to the R&D community. The proposals will be divided into sessions by their main focus: Session 1: Metocean & Floating Units Session 2: Mooring systems Session 3: Subsea systems We wait for you there! The fees to participate to the Forum will be R$80,00. The inscriptions shall be made by to Rosemary Campos, rosemary.campos@br.bureauveritas.com.

DETAILED PROGRAM 8:30 9:00 REGISTRATIONS 9:00 9:25 WELCOME & OPENING SESSION 1A: METOCEAN, FLOATING UNITS & MOORING SYSTEMS 9:25 9:50 - Metocean Conditions Evaluation for Deep Water Fields Advanced Subsea develops and markets tools for Operational Oceanography, such as PRESAL36, a High-resolution Ocean current model providing hindcast and forecast information, near real-time surface current analysis based on satellite data, large eddies, oil spill tracking methods. The proposed project aims at demonstrating on the base of various deep water fields study, the pertinence of a large exploitation of ocean data using innovative methods, for providing information to Engineering, Operation, IMR and Pollution prevention & mitigation departments. 9:50 10:15 FPSO non-linear roll By Allan Carré Petrobras The JIP is proposed by Petrobras together with Marintek and Bureau Veritas. The overarching goal of the project is to develop a recommended practice to help companies to account properly for the non-linear roll motions on the design of FPSOs. Roll motions are a known problem of operators of FPSOs, which imply in uncomfortable conditions for the crew, expensive equipments for process plants and degradation of the structural integrity conditions. Although much work has been done on the prediction of the extreme roll motions including non-linearity, we feel that there is no harmonization in the Industry on the way of dealing with the effects of roll on the structural assessment of the hull, appendages, mooring and risers. In addition, the project will improve the knowledge about a new type of roll motion caused by second order loads on FPSOs with increased resonance period. 10:15 10:45 COFFEE BREAK Enjoy the refreshments and take the chance to discuss further about the presentations!
SESSION 1B: METOCEAN, FLOATING UNITS & MOORING SYSTEMS 10:45 11:10 Advanced Tools for FPSO Hull, Mooring & Risers Inspection The scope of the proposed project is to evaluate the new generation of tools available today or in the near future, allowing to dramatically reduce the FPSO Hull, Mooring and Risers Inspection costs. The new tools considered are AUV, Hybrid ROV and crawlers. A comparison with current methods is envisage (Divers, ROV, others). It is expected that the validation of the innovative services (robotized methods) will bring easy deployment and operation as well as huge OPEX reduction. 11:10 11:35 Support tool for mooring integrity management By Marcos Cueva Oceânica In 2005, as part of a JIP, it was performed a study regarding the mooring integrity of floaters. As main conclusion it is stated that although a system failure can cause several problems, the attention given to its integrity is not proportional. Consequences of mooring failure may include environmental impact (hydrocarbon release on depressurized risers) and business interruption impact (US$ 3M for a single line repair on a bpd FPSO). The main objective of the proposed project is to develop a tool in order to support the onboard management of mooring system integrity of FPSOs operating in Brazil. 11:35 12:00 Life Cycle Management of Mooring Systems By Flávia Rezende Bureau Veritas The JIP is proposed by Bureau Veritas together with Marintek and Oceânica. In addition, the proposal is still opened to contribution of other companies involved with the integrity management of mooring systems, such like, installation, design, inspections/ monitoring companies. An unexpected number of lines failures is observed due to many uncertainties in different stages of the life cycle of the mooring system. In spite of that, there is not yet a harmonized approach for the asset integrity management of those systems, and there is need for dedicated efforts on several areas to better understand and control the risks and consequences of damage. The main objective of the proposed project is to identify gaps and best practices in order to better quantify and manage the risks during the life cycle of mooring systems and to propose the technical basis for recommended practices to support an effective management system to achieve expected performance. 12:00 13:00 LUNCH You will be free to circulate during lunch. Don t loose this opportunity to get more information about the projects of your interest!
SESSION 3A: SUBSEA SYSTEMS 13:00 13:25 Advanced Tools for Pipeline Construction Support & Inspection The scope of the proposed project is to evaluate the new generation of tools allowing to dramatically reduce the cost of Survey Construction Support during deep water field development as well as pipeline inspection requirement for CP Survey, lateral buckling, pipe walking. Survey construction support and inspection require to date, rare and very expensive DP2 vessels. AUV-based methods will allow to work with vessels of opportunity with much lower prices and with at least, a similar level of results. The expected results include the selection and validation of cost-effective services based on Innovative tools. 13:25 13:50 Design Tool for Subsea Umbilicals By Vinicius Girardi Silva ESSS The proposed project aims at developing a software tool to aid innovative design of subsea umbilical cables considering multiphysics features. The software must be capable to test many different umbilical designs in electromagnetic-thermal-structural approach. The software must be developed to be a tool where the user will be able to assemble the components of an umbilical cable (power cables, hydraulic hoses, optic fiber, etc.), set all the material properties related to electromagnetic-thermal-structural behavior up in addition to as many operational conditions as possible. With this software it is expected that the manufacturers will be able to design lighter and more efficient umbilical cables with innovative designs and materials, keeping the reliability even in adverse environmental conditions. 13:50 14:15 Flow Assurance Simulator By Vinicius Girardi Silva ESSS The proposed project consists in developing a numerical simulator that can perform a multiphase flow calculation within pipelines and production risers aiming to predict any undesirable behavior of the flow. In this software clients will be able to input models for inorganic scaling, asphaltene-paraffin deposition, hydrate formation and a list of biochemical and physical phenomena that can modify flow along its domain. The simulator will be capable to perform pressure, velocity, temperature and concentration calculation within pipeline either in static or transient conditions. Additionally, a friendly graphic user interface will be created to aid the user perform flow analysis with success.
14:15 14:40 Support Tool for Deployment of Subsea Equipment By Marcos Cueva Oceânica Nowadays, few procedures support the subsea equipment installation, like DNV RP H103. However, so far there is no current evaluation regarding the applicability in the Brazilian scenario. Also it does not guarantee that what was studied will be applied on the field. The proposed project focuses on the integration of the installation engineering, real time measurement and specific local procedures. At the end of the project, it is expected to have a tool, composed by a software, a procedure and measurement unit, to assist the installation from the engineering to the offshore operation. It would help to improve the relation between the engineering procedures and offshore actions, eventually increasing the safety and reducing downtime of the operation in Brazil. 14:40 15:10 COFFEE BREAK More refreshments and one more opportunity for interesting discussions! SESSION 3B: SUBSEA SYSTEMS 15:10 15:35 Improved Fatigue Assessment Methodologies for Lifetime Extension of Flexible Risers By Marcelo Caire Marintek A review of the fatigue analysis approaches being used by designers, end users and manufacturers may show that a number of key issues directly affecting fatigue performance can be over-simplified due to omission of various non-linearity present both in the analysis of the production system as a whole and locally in the analysis of stresses and strains of the various layers of the riser. With an increasing number of operational flexible pipes reaching the end of their design life offshore Brazil, there is a need for consistent and safe lifetime extension methodology. In the present project, the effect of bi-directional and bi-modal sea states, coupled analysis, damping hysteresis of riser and bend stiffener on the riser fatigue lifetime shall be assessed and procedures to implement it into the reassessment process proposed. 15:35 16:00 Composite Pipes Application on Offshore Projects By Waldemar Banasiak Doris Engenharia The ultra deep water projects induce the procurement of new materials application, with high resistance and reduced weight to limit the required capacities of cranes, winches, etc. installed on platforms and floating units. Reduced weights of subsea flowlines and risers will have the significant impact on improvement of safety of offshore structures. The main objective of the project is to identify the applicability of composite pipes for offshore systems. In the scope of the project the design tools for composite pipes will be developed and the limits of their application will be established.
The project deliverables will include the analytical tools for selected composite pipes design calibrated with experiments as well as the established limits for composite pipe application like maximum internal diameter, maximum internal and external pressure, fatigue life, etc; the improvement of design code and qualification of material for offshore applications. 16:00 16:25 Collapse of Corroded Deepwater Pipelines By Adilson Benjamin Petrobras Until now little research on corroded pipelines subjected to external pressure has been carried out, so far only nine full scale tests of tubular specimens containing single corrosion defects have been performed while research on pipelines containing closely spaced corrosion defects subjected to external pressure has not been undertaken. The objective of the Collapse of Corroded Deepwater Pipelines Joint Industry Project (CCDP JIP) is to develop an extensive experimental program in which full scale tubular specimens containing single spark eroded defects will be submitted to external hydrostatic pressure up to collapse. Due to the high cost of repairing deepwater pipelines soon the oil companies will be highly interested in the development of cutting edge technologies related with the mitigation of corrosion on one hand and related with the assessment of corrosion defects in the other hand. 16:25 17:00 CLOSURE KEYNOTE Speaker to be defined.
