3 Starting Point aim: overview about offshore research activities of universities, institutes and test fields along the POWER CLUSTER partner countries Denmark, Norway, Sweden, UK, the Netherlands and Germany to join further activities between research partners and between research and offshore business by generating innovative projects and apply for EU funding

6 Results research activities along test fields are mainly concentrated on single countries within the countries several initiatives, cooperation s and cluster were established in order to strengthen the national offshore competence and industry fields of research in general are almost the same in each country cooperative research projects between the countries in 6th an 7th FP of EU

7 Germany RAVE: coordinated by Fraunhofer IWES accompanying the alpha ventus test field FINO 3: coordinated by Forschungs- und Entwicklungszentrum Fachhochschule Kiel GmbH accompanying the FINO 3 test platform 33 data user: 12 businesses, 21 research institutes CEwind: Center of Excellence for Windenergy SH Research Network of the Universities SH organised as Registered Cooperative Society Coastal Futures: coordinated by GKSS Integrated Costal Zone Management with offshore wind energy case study

8 Denmark HREnsemble: coordinated by WEPROG ApS accompanying the offshore wind farm Horns Rev National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Risø coordinating a wide range of national research projects: 12 MW Turbines, ADAPWING, Blade King, Grid, IPSYS, WindScanner, Wind-Wave, etc.

10 TPWind: European Wind Energy Technology Platform Wind Energy Roadmap on October 7th, 2009 integrated in the EC programme Investing in the development of Low Carbone Technologies tool for the development of wind energy in the period

11 European Wind Energy Roadmap 2009 Objectives: accelerate the reduction of costs resolve the associated grid integration issues develop a better picture of wind resources in Europe, build 5-10 testing facilities for new turbine components; up to 10 demonstration projects of next generation turbines; at least 5 prototypes of new offshore substructures demonstrate new manufacturing processes test the viability of new logistics strategies and erection techniques in remote and often hostile weather environments

12 Future Challenges raising the acceptance logistic and erection strategies and technologies optimal design of blades operation and maintenance concepts and technologies wind and weather forecast just in time and local wave interferences birds protection noise protection grid integration

13 Conclusions survey can only serve a kind of a bird view following this, every partner country has a wide range of offshore research resources and competences coordinated by national networks there is a need to go more in detail to find differences and synergies to integrate them in well balanced joint research projects to meet the needs of the offshore business exactly starting point for our discussions today
