2 Extension Strategies in Forestry Research Sl. No. Strategy statement Objectives Activities Actionable points 1. Outreach of Research To disseminate Prioritization of existing Constitution of a team at Activities to various stakeholders and need to develop a system of technologies to the stakeholders technologies as per demand of stakeholders by the Institutes to prioritize dissemination of existing technologies proper resource allocation Surveys and meetings to be conducted to assess the feedback of stakeholders on the technologies and trainings provided Constitution of Response Assessment Teams at Proper budget allocation under Directorate of Extension Trainings and demonstration of developed technologies Wide circulation and publicity of technologies Budgetary provisions for the above proposed activities by the Institutes as well as the Council and allocation thereof Preparation of training calendar Conduct of trainings and demonstrations through VVKs, DVs and other extension modules Maintenance and aftercare of the technologies transferred/sold Preparation of estimates as per annual plan for Forestry Extension by the Institutes and the Headquarters and allocation of funds accordingly 2

New technologies to match new needs of stakeholders To develop appropriate new technologies Assessment of emerging and new needs of stakeholders through survey and meetings Inclusion of needs in the research plan of RAG 3. Need to develop a single window extension system for the forestry related issues To disseminate all forestry technologies to the stakeholders at one place Preparation of complete database of technologies by Extension Division of each Institute Designation of facilitator for Single Window System (SWS) by Head of the Extension Division of the institute for the purpose 4. All research activities should have inbuilt extension programme To prepare research projects based on stakeholders needs Needs of stakeholders to be assessed during pre-project liaison meeting at Institute level Institute may discuss extension aspect also during pre-project liaison meeting Evaluation of feedback of technologies extended 5. Establishment of successful demonstration models for dissemination of technologies in all agroecological zones To demonstrate the technology through Van Vigyan Kendras (VVKs) and Demo Villages (DVs) established for the purpose Model nurseries/ simple technologies, other displays and charts etc. to be showcased at VVKs and DVs Live demonstration/ field visits may be arranged on prescheduled dates To identify suitable locations Preparation of Models, Charts and other materials Preparation of a calendar of field visits 6. Enhancement of capacity building of persons involved in extension activities on Training of the trainers To ensure the availability of trained Impart refresher courses and trainings to extension workers from time to time Identification of suitable persons for extension work Preparation of training 3

To have Extension & Publicity as a curriculum at UG / PG level in universities imparting forestry education To ensure availability of trained manpower To ensure the incorporation of forestry extension in the curricula of the Universities receiving grants-in-aid from the Council Universities imparting forestry education to incorporate forestry extension at UG and PG level in academic curricula 12.
