3 HTSM role and relation to HTM/M2i TKI grants are awarded by Ministry of Economic Affairs to all topsectors TKI grants amount to 25% of eligible cost. Eligible cost: industry money spent in collaborative research programmes with research institutes in the relevant fields and fitting to the agreed sector roadmap HTSM board decides on allocation of TKI- grants (= 25% of TKI foundation (NL: TKI grondslag)) for all 17 roadmaps in the scope Monitor in place to establish TKI grant generated by each roadmap Roadmap council advices HTSM board on validity of TKI project/programme proposals M2i plays a key role in programming HTM TKI grant (50% co funding mandatory) TKI grant for HTM in 2014 amounts to 2.1 mln with upward potential 9/25/2015 HTM roadmap update 3
4 Scope and Starting point roadmap update 2015 The High Tech Materials roadmap starts from two main inputs: 1. Dutch Materials Challenges for Materials science in the Netherlands, report of the FOM Materials Foresight Committee The European/ Horizon 2020 strategy on materials research 9/25/2015 HTM roadmap update
5 FOM Materials Foresight Committee The Dutch Materials Science Field is very strong, with a citation impact of 1.7 times world average and a remarkable number of knowledge intensive industries. The report distinguishes 4 domains: 1. Materials for sustainable energy, 2. Next-generation engineering materials, 3. Designer functional metamaterials and 4 4. Soft and bio-inspired materials This roadmap concentrates of the first three domains. Soft and bio-inspired materials are dealt with by the topsector Chemistry. 9/25/2015 HTM roadmap update 5
6 European/ Horizon 2020 strategy Strong focus on developing European industrial capabilities in Key Enabling Technologies (KETs): 1. Nanotechnologies, 2. Advanced Materials 3. Advanced Manufacturing and Processing and 4. Biotechnology. Strong emphasis on the contribution of Key Enabling Technologies to societal challenges. Contractual Public-Private Partnerships will be used extensively for the implementation and deployment of the KET. 9/25/2015 HTM roadmap update 6
