1 THE COMPOSITE DEVELOPMENTCENTER OF QUEBEC: YOUR R&D RESOURCE FOR JUST-IN-TIME PRODUCTION The CDCQ helps business managers in the composites activity sector and companies using composite materials to benefit from technical assistance, applied research and technology transfer in order to improve the quality and performance of their products or services. Founded in 2002, the Centre pursues a tradition of more than 20 years of service to the composites industry. In fact, in 1986, Cégep de Saint-Jérôme instituted the first composites training program in Canada. Since then, the program has been recognized for its excellence year after year by students and the industry. The CDCQ s unique status ensures complete independence and impartiality: it is not associated with any company or private supplier. Results of work done by CDCQ teams remain the property of client companies. The Composite Development Centre of Quebec (CDCQ), affiliated to the Cegep of St. Jérôme, contributes to technological and economic development of Quebec and Canada. The CDCQ is one of 49 CCTT (Collegial Centre for Technology Transfer) of Quebec supported as such by the «Ministère de l éducation et de l Enseignement Supérieur» (MEES) and the «Ministère de l Économie, de la Science et de l Innovation» (MESI). These specialists constantly monitor trends in technology in order to provide the most beneficial solutions to entrepreneurs based on a company s specific needs. In addition to focusing efforts on uncovering new solutions, CDCQ s specialists continually see to the transfer of technologies that will enable industries to broaden their know-how and ensure quality production. 3 CDCQ: COMPETENCE AND EXPERIENCE The CDCQ s management team demonstrates strong professional experience in the field of composites materials. Each member of the team places maximum importance on quality communications and efficient resource management. Some of the Centre s engineers and all technicians have graduated from the technical educational program of Transformation Techniques of Composites at the Cegep of St. Jerome. They contribute their technological skills and proven experience to CDCQ s success. The Centre also draws on the expertise of professors from the Cegep of St. Jerome s Department of Composites Transformation Techniques, Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering, who regularly collaborate on certain projects. Where a situation warrants more precise knowledge or specific skills, recognized industry advisers may even join the team. A LABORATORY WITH THE ISO ACCREDITATION The CDCQ holds technical and scientific expertise, as well as the equipments and infrastructures necessary for the performance of mechanical and thermomechanical testing. The work carried out within its composite material characterization laboratory is done to support the activities of its partners and customers and contributes to the progress of its own research and development activities. Moreover, it is for this reason that it received accreditation CAN-P-4E (ISO / IEC 17025: 2005), which is a seal of trust on its testing laboratoriy. The SCC s verdict stipulates that the CDCQ meets the most rigorous and the highest standards. The certification confirms the performance standards associated with two mechanical testing procedures frequently performed by the CDCQ personnel for its customers: the ASTM D638 standard (Tensile Properties) and ASTM D790 standard (Flexural Properties).
