Ghanem, ENOC Jack Hinton, Baker Hughes, a GE company Dear Colleague, On behalf of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Conference Programme Committee, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 2018 SPE International Conference and Exhibition on Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Social Responsibility, taking place April 2018, in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Why is HSE so important? It is important because it determines, on a very fundamental level, whether the energy legacy that we leave our children is a positive legacy or a negative one. The quantity and quality of resources that we invest in HSE innovation and implementation, indicate our level of commitment towards building and strengthening energy systems that are safe and secure both for us and future generations. Through this event, we hope to create a platform where all the industry s stakeholders, from the individual oil and gas professional to the HSE officer to the subject-matter specialist, can come together to discuss and debate current HSE systems and procedures, choose the best practices, and bring about the changes that will lead to the industry s continued success and advancement. It is in this spirit that we invite you to share your ideas, case studies, and experience, in HSE. Over 120 paper proposal topics have been included to ensure that all the pertinent issues are covered, and they are divided under key HSE subjects like Health in Communities, Health in the Working Environment, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Process Safety, Safety: Management Systems, Environment, Social Responsibility, and Sustainability. 5 General Guidelines General Guidelines: Abstract Submission Deadline: 2 October 2017 Changes, Cancellations, and Withdrawals 1. Obtain necessary clearance and travel approval from your management. 2. The paper proposal should be formatted into four specific paragraphs. The combined word count must be between 225 and 450 words in length. Visit for more information. SPE and the Programme Committee consider an accepted abstract as a commitment to present. If extenuating circumstances prevent the author from making the presentation, it is that author s obligation to notify their SPE Programme Lead and their session chair(s), if applicable. Withdrawals must be made in writing to the SPE office as soon as possible. 3. Please summarise experience that qualifies you to present this abstract at the conference in the Novel/Additional Information section. 4. The paper proposal must be received by 2 October Submit your paper proposal online at 6. Do not include title or author names in the body of the abstract. Title and author information will be requested separately through the submission system. 7. Please note that, if accepted, your paper proposal may be published, as submitted, in conference information media, including the SPE website. 8. Authors whose paper proposals are accepted will be required to provide a manuscript for inclusion in the conference proceedings. 9. Authors who do not submit a manuscript and the associated publication forms by the manuscript due date will be withdrawn from the programme and will not be allowed to present. Manuscripts should be submitted by 1 February Under no circumstances can a submitted abstract be changed once it has been submitted. The failure of SPE conference authors to have at least one designated individual present the paper at the conference will result in the conference paper being permanently withdrawn from the SPE technical paper archive on OnePetro.org. Cancellations, particularly after a paper has been accepted and publicised, are viewed by the Programme Committee as highly unprofessional. A Word About Commercialism SPE has a stated policy against use of commercial trade names, company logos, or text that is commercial in tone in the paper title, text, or slides. Use of such terms will result in careful scrutiny by the Programme Committee in evaluating abstracts, and the presence of commercialism in the paper may result in it being withdrawn from the programme. A Word About Plagiarism We expect authors to credit all sources used in their writings and not to represent work of others as their own. We take plagiarism very seriously. Please refer to SPE s plagiarism policy at Copyright All authors of papers presented at the conference will be required to complete and submit a copyright release form to SPE or submit the copyright exemption form where applicable.
