Standing befre a crwd f millins, the Pntiff nt nly inspired yung peple, he als distilled the 500 year histry f Jesuit educatin int these few simple yet challenging wrds. Creativity and curage, audacity and genersity: these are the hallmark f a Jesuit educatin, all in the service f a turbulent, ften brken wrld. T be Jesuit educated is t celebrate the challenges that attend this turbulence withut lsing sight f the values and wisdm that transcend it. We have christened ur strategic plan Sempre Avanti, which translates frm the Italian t Always Frward. In ding s, we hnr the depth and permanence f ur Ignatian rts always rigrus, always creative, always intellectually curius while we als welcme the frward mvement f change, the invigrating call f, and respnse t, histry and innvatin. As a liberal arts Jesuit institutin, Le Myne Cllege is nt wedded t a fixed and immveable past, nr is it enamred f change fr its wn sake. As this strategic plan suggests, we mve frward in ways that are mindful, innvative, and always cnsistent with the values that have allwed us t transfrm the lives f ur students and have empwered ur students t transfrm the wrld. Sempre Avanti: Always. Frward. At Le Myne Cllege, we believe ur 500-year-ld Jesuit heritage prvides an alternative t a false dichtmy between jb training and intellectually-enriching study. Fr Ignatian educatrs animated by the Jesuit traditin, transfrmative educatin and prfessinal learning are nt discntinuus. Rather, they reflect the dialgue between the academy and the wrld it serves: a dialgue at the cre f all Jesuit educatin. By framing itself arund a view f human life as meaningfully active and engaged in cmmunity, Ignatian educatin has always included a lve f knwledge summed up by the imperative that we learn t see Gd in all things even as it has adapted and prmted its understanding f a wrld f citizenship, vcatin, and justice. Given the missin f the Cllege, ur Jesuit heritage, and the cmplex landscape f higher educatin tday, Le Myne has established a visin that is frward-lking but culturally cnsistent; true t ur strengths and traditin, yet nimble in the face f a shifting ecnmic and educatinal landscape. 1

2 As is necessary t any strategic plan, this dcument integrates new initiatives t catalyze ur visin; pririties that rder ur actins; and specific tactics t drive and shape ur intentins. It prceeds always frm the funding assumptin that Le Myne can and will maintain the prductive tensin between the liberal arts traditin and creative, respnsive prgrammatic innvatin. Be it in English, Marketing, r Nursing, the liberal arts are critical t, and indeed inseparable frm, all f ur effrts at Le Myne. They prvide ur students nt simply with knwledge, but with wisdm, and with a visin f themselves in the wrld as agents f inspiratin and change. With bth intellectual flexibility and prfessinal adaptability, ur students will maximize their pprtunities in the jb market, and they will lead in their chsen fields. Hwever, their success will always reflect an utward-lking visin; their chices in the wrld will be infrmed by the cmpassin and demand fr justice in the wrld that undergird ur Jesuit traditin. Building upn a cmprehensive, brad-based educatin and fundatinal learning abut the wrld in which they live, Le Myne students reflectively mve tward intellectual grwth and meaningful actin tward lives that will be bth persnally rewarding and successful n behalf f the greater gd. We will supprt the traditinal educatinal structure at the cre f ur histrical strength, and, by prviding innvative, frward-lking, sustainable educatinal pprtunities acrss the Cllege, we will situate ur students fr a cmpetitive, glbal, everchanging wrld. We will invest in ur faculty and educatinal prgramming in the next five years as needed t ensure adequate resurces and will perennially reassess ur academic fferings t ensure their vibrancy, relevance, and timeliness. Additinally, we will develp resurces t supprt all students as they refine the skills that will allw them t thrive in their studies and eventually cmpete in the marketplace f ideas. In cncert with the missin f the Cllege, ur gal is t nurture students wh cme t us frm a number f linguistic and cultural backgrunds, students wh have been underprepared, as well as students wh may have ccasinal need fr supprt. Yet, in keeping with the Jesuit traditin f intellectual rigr, we will als develp prgrams and pprtunities fr students t excel at the highest levels f academic achievement. Restructure and Endw Hnrs Prgramming. As a tuchstne fr any cllege, the Hnrs prgram needs the supprt and distinctiveness t attract exceptinal students and t best prvide them with the highest quality educatinal experience. This prgram shuld be endwed, and it will serve as a mdel fr the verarching educatinal experience ffered at Le Myne. A Chair f Hnrs Prgramming, r a directrship, shuld be funded. The Cllege will als re-examine departmental hnrs t ensure a premier experience fr students pursuing Hnrs utside the Integral hnrs prgram. 3

4 Develp a Writing Center that includes technical and scientific writing and is led by a dedicated directr wh respnds t student and faculty needs. This welcming space will fregrund Le Myne s lng-standing and ever-renewed cmmitment t prducing graduates wh can write with cnfidence, agility, and elquence, as well as facilitating mre cmmunity utreach and supprt fr faculty wrk. Establish a Quantitative Reasning Center: This currently unrealized OneLeMyne pririty will supprt bth Cre Curriculum and individual quantitative disciplines such as business, ecnmics, mathematics, and the scial and natural sciences. Reinfrce ur Fundamental Cmmitment t the Liberal Arts Educatin: Excellence is the prduct f sustained investment as well as f creative innvatin. As we pursue a number f new initiatives in this Strategic Plan, we will als nurture thse resurces, particularly human resurces, that make a Jesuit Liberal Arts educatin such a pwerful surce f persnal and cultural transfrmatin. We will supprt faculty in their research and pedaggy by prviding the material supprt fr their wrk in and ut f the classrm. Additinally, we will prvide the intellectual space fr grwth thrugh innvatin in the curriculum, supprt fr the Cre, cmmitment t research and cllabratin, and in sustained administrative supprt as well as the physical space fr grwth which will make it pssible t shwcase the talents f ur students and ur faculty. Academic and Administrative supprt fr the faculty. Such supprt nt nly cnfirms ur willing investment in and cmmitment t ur academic prgrams; it als will facilitate the types f creativity, student research, and innvatin we value s highly. This cntinuus reinvigratin will include: Adding resurces fr the Cre Curriculum Allcating resurces t supprt creativity and areas f grwth in the Cllege, as well as ur technlgical and physical resurces, t reify ur belief in the value f the liberal arts. This includes prvisin f spaces that reflect ur cmmitment t and belief in the value f the humanities and scial sciences with facilities that reflect this cmmitment, as we have fr the natural sciences. Prviding supprt fr student research, students seeking fellwships, etc. Academic Sustainability. We will align ur enrllment and academic prgrams and institutinal resurces t achieve the best results fr bth recruitment and financial efficiencies, and Admissins will seek t better parlay ur strengths in the Humanities and Scial Sciences. (See, als, Sustainability) At the same time, Le Myne will als pursue innvative mdels fr sustainable academic and institutinal administrative functins t supprt ur educatinal missin (such as advising, mentring, faculty research, student develpment, student administrative and financial supprt, and ther administrative functins) cnsistent with ur Jesuit missin. (See, als, Sustainability) We will perennially reassess ur academic fferings t ensure their vibrancy, relevance, and timeliness, thus remaining pen nt nly t new prgramming ideas and pprtunities, but als t being adaptable and creative with ur existing curriculum. 4

5 Supprt the arts. We will create and supprt pprtunities fr bth cmmunity and student engagement with the arts, whether written, theatrical, musical, r visual. Supprt the faculty. Le Myne will carefully assess the numbers f full time faculty in undergraduate teaching in the Cllege f Arts and Sciences as part f the prcess f mnitring undergraduate fferings. When pedaggically necessary and fiscally sustainable, we will invest in full-time faculty t ensure the quality and stability f ur fferings. We will reinfrce the academic supprt structure, including administrative assistants, as resurces allw. The Cllege remains cmmitted, within its means, t apprpriate prfessinal develpment fr academic supprt persnnel. We will reinfrce supprt fr faculty schlarship (faculty research, faculty travel, faculty student research, etc.). Increase and streamline faculty develpment, including nurturing tenure-track faculty. Establish a Teaching and Learning Hub t integrate three nw separate functins: supprt fr faculty curse develpment, encuragement f creative pedaggies, and nging learning assessment f bth curses and prgrams. Centralize new curse and prgram develpment, tied with apprpriate funding and, where apprpriate, pedaggical supprt, but als integrally tied t training and develpment f assessment plans. Supprt fr implementatin f assessment in prgrams and curses. Funding, training and supprt centralized here fr develpment f hybrid, nline and alternative pedaggy curses. Establish a virtual/actual lcatin fr assessment resurces and supprt. Study the pssibility that, wrking with the Cllege Curriculum Cmmittee, this culd becme the versight and supprt mechanism fr peridic prgram evaluatins. In cnjunctin with the newly established cllege-wide idea-incubatr (See sustainability), make resurces available t faculty t engage in feasibility studies and prpsal preparatin fr new prgrams and curses. The main gals f this verall effrt are t t develp Le Myne s general resurces and pprtunities in persnal and prfessinal develpment, and t develp a cmprehensive prgram in persnal and prfessinal develpment, t be called the Manresa Prgram, that will better enable students t integrate learning, meaning, calling, and career. Targeted utcmes f this initiative include a 90% first t secnd year retentin rate, a 80% graduatin rate and a 90+% emplyment and/r graduate schl placement rate in the field f chice. The Manresa Prgram: Integrating Learning, Meaning, Calling, and Career (LMC 2 ) Unflding ver the curse f participating students cllege careers, this prgram will cnnect vcatinal discernment and career preparatin t the critical understanding, values, and purpse fstered by Le Myne s Jesuit, liberal arts educatin. The primary gal f the prgram is t fcus and magnify the preparatin fr purpseful lives f meaningful success prmted by ur students Le Myne experience as a whle. By helping them t integrate their academic curse wrk (in the Cre curriculum as well as their majrs/minrs), their persnal and spiritual develpment, and their vcatinal discernment and career preparatin, the Prgram will enhance students capacity t thrive persnally and prfessinally in a rapidly changing wrld. 6

The Manresa Prgram will integrate academic educatin with brader experiential learning, gaining f intellectual rigr with help in verall maturatin. Life-lng learning in Graduate and Prfessinal Educatin: By 2021, Le Myne Cllege will establish additinal prfessinal prgrams fr graduate and nn-traditinal students, ensuring that such grwth is dne in a thughtful and careful manner with prgrams that are wellintegrated with the Jesuit Missin f the Cllege. Establish new graduate and prfessinal prgrams with specific fcus n the areas f educatin, health sciences, and prfessinal studies (i.e., Health Care Administratin). All prgrams must be aligned with the Cllege s Jesuit Missin and prvide new revenue streams t advance the verall fiscal stability f the Cllege. By 2021, Le Myne will have develped significant new prgramming fr its undergraduates that will respnd t develping challenges and pprtunities in sciety and in the reginal ecnmy while guaranteeing students in thse prgrams a transfrmative educatin f the whle persn. Students will graduate frm Le Myne Cllege with a tlkit that includes the skills necessary t be literate in data analysis, t be culturally cmpetent, and t cmmunicate well (including in a language beynd the ne learned at hme). These skills will allw students t slve prblems, lead, and serve. As such, students will be aware f glbal issues and be actively engaged citizens in the wrld.
