2 Introduction The Rotary International in Britain and Ireland (RIBI) Young Photographer Competition is a successful, wellestablished and competition. Its aim is to support and encourage young people to: Use digital as well as traditional methods of photography. Experiment with photography to express their ideas in inventive ways. Use their imagination to interpret a given theme. Theme The theme of the competition is A Different Perspective. Task The task of the competition is to produce and submit a portfolio of up to three photographs (in colour, or in black and white) which are based on the above theme. Entrants The competition is open to students that are undertaking full time education in School College Home Age Groups The competition will be run in three age groups: Junior 7 to 10 years old on 31 August 2017 Intermediate 11 to 13 years old on 31 August 2017 Senior 14 to 17 years old on 31 August 2017 Stages The competition will be run in three-stages as follows: Devizes Area Final: This stage will be organised by Devizes Rotary, and the winner of each age group will be invited to take part in the District 1200 competition. District 1200 Final: This stage will be organised by the District 1200 Rotary team, and the winner of each age group will be invited to enter the national final. National Final: This stage will be organised by the national Rotary team. 2

3 Entry Competitors should submit their photographs via the online Entry Form which can be found at Deadline The deadline for submission of entries to the Devizes Area Final is 7 th January 2018 Notification The winner of each of the 3 Age Groups within the Devizes Area Final will be notified by 15 th January 2018 Photographic Equipment Photographs can be taken using any equipment capable of producing an image in JPEG format that can be attached to the electronic entry form. Such equipment can include digital cameras, phones, tablets etc. Judging A panel of judges will select one winner from each age group. Judging of the submitted photographs will be based on: Technical merit. Content and composition;. Interpretation of the theme. Imagination and style. Allowance will be made wherever possible for loss of picture quality caused by the quality of the equipment used rather than by the ability of the competitor. Prizes All competitors will receive a certificate of participation, and the winner of the Devizes Area Final will additionally receive a commemorative plaque. Working with Children Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland has adopted this statement of policy in working with children, vulnerable adults and those with disability. 3

4 The needs and rights of the child, the elderly, the vulnerable and those with disability take priority. It is the duty of every Rotarian to safeguard to the best of their ability, the welfare of and prevent the physical, sexual or emotional abuse and neglect of all children, the elderly, persons with disability or otherwise vulnerable persons with whom they come into contact during their Rotarian duties. 4

5 Appendix A. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Competitors must confirm that, if their photograph includes images of people under 18 years of age, then they have obtained written permission from the parent, guardian or carer of the person photographed, and that their photograph can be used for the purposes of this competition. Competitors must grant Rotary and its partners a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence to use their photograph throughout the world and in all media, including both electronic and hard copy. Rotary respects the Competitor s rights and does not claim copyright for works submitted to this contest. Competitors will retain full copyright of each entry. Competitors moral rights will be respected in that whenever work is published by Rotary (and its partners) the competitor will be credited. Failure to publish a credit due to error or oversight shall not be deemed a breach of this condition. Competitors agree that any submitted photograph may be used by Rotary (and its partners) for marketing and promotional purposes of this contest, or future contests, and for no other purpose.
