9 Public Private Partnerships Background What is different? joint vision development & strategic agenda setting industry-relevant roadmaps: co-operation of experts interaction between industry, SMEs, research organisations and public entities network that actively encourages new involvement transparent & accessible: o clear funding rules: open to all o easier for SMEs to get involved o strategic funding: calls relevant to industry o subject to usual FP framework regulations & mechanisms

16 Factories of the Future PPP Projects Result: industry re-engaged 61 projects up and running 250M of EU in 2010/11 time-to-contract 1 st call: 8.5 months statistics show industrial participation of more than 50% in FoF PPP (compared to some 20-30% for FP7) additional 400M in 2012/13 Ad-hoc Industry Advisory Group (AIAG) works well, ensures that roadmap reflects industrial needs

28 Factories of the Future: state of the Partnership From FP7 to Horizon 2020 challenges present at launch of European Economic Recovery Plan are still there Europe still a world-leader, however......competitors are acting too: AMP in US economic, societal & environmental challenges need to be over-come European Commission proposal on Horizon 2020: industry working on strategic roadmap Advanced Manufacturing also identified as a KET: implementation through FoF an appropriate budget is necessary to support effective projects continued effective & close relationship with DG RTD & DG CONNECT needs formalisation
