2 being connected We believe we are living in an age where everything, including ourselves, is connected. We measure our connectivity by the number of friends on Facebook or our first-degree contacts on LinkedIn. A beautiful experience exists only by the number of likes you get from others. Are we truly so connected? So stop and reconsider your daily routine. For instance, your choice to choose junk food or to go for the healthy option. The choice you make will have a prolonged effect on you and loved ones around you. Therefore, we should be all connected. This applies to all of our daily deliberations and more. Join the main event of TEDxRotterdam 3rd November and get connected with everyone and everything the day has to offer you. This event will take place from 09:00-17:00 at De Doelen in Rotterdam. We have a great line-up of inspiring speakers. They bring a very interesting mix of ideas, knowledge and experience to the table, and form an excellent breeding ground to talk about ideas worth spreading. This makes our TEDxROTTERDAM main event a great contribution to the Rotterdam region and beyond.

In 2013 and 2014, she represented The Netherlands and won the European Bronze Award in Toastmasters Public Speaking Championships. In 2017, she was the winner of the TEDxRotterdam Open Mic contest. From her early years as an orator in India, Sangbreeta has spent decades mastering the art of communication and storytelling. HER talk: Sangbreeta Moitra shares her simple yet thought-provoking model on how individuals can create an unforgettable presence, that brings their purpose, meaning and belief to life.

He previously worked for Elsevier and the NOS. In his recent book Is there anyone? (Is daar iemand?) he explores the spectrum of our smartphone addiction. He is also a guest lecturer at the University of Leiden. His talk: Wouter van Noort will shed some light on how our attention is being hacked. He will raise awareness towards the downside of connectivity and share some solutions for finding the right balance between off and online connections.

Jasna is a young an energetic pioneer in combining innovative fashion and cutting-edge technology. Not only in creating unique projects and collections, but also in bringing these to life by using techniques such as virtual and augmented reality. She has a strong vision on the clothing of the future and how it can add value to our daily lives. HER talk: Jasna Rogekam will inspire us to rethink clothing, textiles, and the fashion industry as a whole. Can we reconcile the digital world with our lives, our bodies, our senses and even our brains through interactive clothing or smart textiles?

In 2012 he co-founded design agency The Incredible Machine, a design consultancy focusses on connected products. Besides design consultancy Marcel is a teacher at Delft University of Technology and a co-author of The IoT Design Manifesto guidelines for responsible design in a connected world. His talk: Marcel Schouwenaar will spark a debate about what technology we want and what our society deserves. His vision: a fair and inclusive Internet of Things starts with good ethics.

He started his career with KPN but soon after he left the corporate world and founded WappZapp, a video on demand platform providing curated free and paid video. Wienke has been fighting for a free and open internet since he founded Startups for Net Neutrality. Together with a group of people he let the EU Parliament know how important net neutrality is for starting online businesses. His talk: Wienke Giezeman is on a mission to provide the entire world with a free and open Internet of Things data network.

She was recenly recognized as one of the top 100 CISO s globally. Working in the information security arena for the past 18 years, she has worked mostly for global telecommunications companies such as Verizon and France Telecom. Jaya is also a frequent speaker at security conferences on subjects around lawful interception, mass surveillance, and cryptography. HER talk: Jaya Baloo will dive into cybersecurity and its impact on our daily lives. Her vision: United for a safer cyber space!

Emma is also the founder of the BlueCity lab, in an open workshop and laboratory based in the heart of an old abandoned swimming pool in Rotterdam, which is now turned into BlueCity where entrepreneurs work together in accordance with the sustainable concept of the Blue Economy, where production work as an ecosystem, waste of one entrepreneur is food for the other. HER talk: Emma van der Leest will dive into biodesign: the cross pollination between science, design & technology. How nature s sustainable materials could become tomorrow s consumer products?

Wolf Ketter New energy / Business / Global issues / Technology Prof. Wolf Ketter is the Director of the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Centre for Future Energy Business as well as Director of the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne. He is also policy advisor on energy to the German government. His research (and those of his PhDs and the Centres) focusses on how to create smart and sustainable markets. his talk: Prof. Wolf Ketter will share his views on the fast and fearless transition to clean energy. The world needs energy to be reliable, stable, affordable. How do we help businesses, consumers, and countries make the transition faster?
