ACIR presents the latest research being conducted on diverse topics in intelligence technologies with the goal of advancing knowledge and applications in this rapidly evolving field. Introduction Due to the advancement in digital imaging and video technology, huge amounts of data are available across the world in the form of images and video sequences. It leads to a variety of engineering applications starting from the fundamental scientific researches to the development of advanced scientific researches. Analyzing this data to get meaningful information is a tedious task. Therefore, digital image and video processing are considered very essential research areas in the current scenario. To accomplish it many classical algorithms and techniques are available, but they do not serve the purpose of solving advanced real world problems, as the data contains uncertainties. In order to address these challenges, the concept of computational intelligence approaches such as fuzzy set, rough set, genetic algorithm, neural network, etc. is introduced. Study of these techniques in image and video processing is very wide and quite interesting. These researches are neither limited to computational intelligence nor to image and video processing. It spans over communication technology, parallel and distributed computing, network security, data mining, knowledge discovery, etc. But, to address all these areas is very difficult. Therefore, we restrict our self to computational intelligence in image and video processing. Keeping this in mind, the objective of this edited book is to provide the researchers of various fields like computer science, electrical, electronics, and Information Technology with the recent advances and approaches of computational intelligence in the field of image and video processing. To achieve these objectives, theoretical back ground, advances, and applications

2 to real time problems are emphasized. We believe, our effort can make this collection interesting and highly attractive to the research community. Objective of the Book Computational intelligence based techniques have firmly established themselves as viable, alternate, mathematical tools for more than a decade. They have been extensively employed in many systems and application domains, among these signal processing, automatic control, industrial and consumer electronics, robotics, finance, manufacturing systems, electric power systems, and power electronics. Image and video processing is also an extremely potent area which has attracted the attention of many researchers who are interested in the development of new computational intelligence based techniques and their suitable applications, in both research problems and in real world problems. The development of powerful computers is a boon to implement computational intelligence techniques in image and video processing systems. In order to achieve intelligence based processing, high performance computers could exploit parallelism of current and upcoming computer architectures. This edited book presents a large number of interesting applications to intelligent multimedia processing of various computational intelligence techniques, such as rough sets; neural networks; fuzzy logic; evolutionary computing; artificial immune systems; and reinforcement learning. It will help those researchers who have interest in this field to keep insight into different concepts and their importance for applications in real life. This has been done to make the edited book more flexible and to stimulate further interest in topics. While these are a few examples of issues, our intention in editing this book is to offer concepts of computational intelligence for image and video processing in a precise and clear manner to the research community. In editing the book, our attempt is to provide frontier advances and applications of computational intelligence techniques in image and video processing. The conceptual basis requires achieving in depth knowledge in the field of computer science, and information technology will be stressed upon. All these motivated us toward computational intelligence for image and video processing. It is planned tentatively to divide the proposed edited book into four parts. Part 1 of the edited book will be stressed upon new computational intelligence based techniques and its applications in image and video processing algorithms. Part 2 broadly will cover image and video enhancement, restoration, segmentation algorithms and its applications. Part 3 mostly will cover different compression techniques, various digital watermarking for image and video signal. Part 4 will be stressed upon various applications of image and video processing in various fields. We trust and hope that the proposed edited book will offer a unified view of the modern computational intelligence techniques in the study of image and video processing. Therefore, we think it will be suitable as a reference for engineers, researchers, and graduate students. Target Audience Many of the researchers in different organizations across the globe have been doing research in Computational Intelligence based image and video processing. To keep abreast with this development, it is an effort to bring the recent advances in Image

3 Processing/Analysis, Video Processing/Analysis, intelligent computing and its emerging applications in a cohesive manner. The main objective is to bring most of the major developments in the above mentioned area in a precise manner, so that it can serve as a handbook for many researchers. Also, many of the universities have introduced this topic as a course at the postgraduate level. I trust and hope that this book will help the researchers, who have interest in Computational Intelligence in Image and Video Processing, to keep insight into recent advances and their importance in real life applications. Authors will be notified by September 30, 2014 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by January 31, All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
