1 "All Electric", Challenges with a new set of interfaces As part of the process of introducing electrical actuators the interface between control systems and the Subsea products has moved. New All Electric control systems does now include the actuator, thus ending at the mechanical interface between the valve and actuator. For the purpose of making these systems ROV maintainable, the new interface can be seen as critical together with the fact that tooling and spares must also be available. A set of mechanical interfaces developed by Ifokus to harmonize number and range of interfaces. By: Helge Eide

4 Why a Common Interface? Interchangeable from one field to an other To gain field experience on a recommended design and implement improvements on this. Be able to add, change or improve equipment after years of operation. Always be able to change to the best technology. Reduce the tool pool and/or number of Spares ROV or future AUV maintainability The boundary between tooling and Actuators can fade away. Semi permanent tooling can be used / placed on a fly by No need to install actuators ators until you need them. Possible to maintain the increased number of control issues being put Subsea Be able to replace instrumentation in future Subsea projects.

7 Potential Requirements Rotational and linear valve interfaces: o Operation by ROV (or for future AUV s?) o Permanent design criteria, fatigue calculation for large Actuators o Replaceable Stem Seal o Possible to install pressure cap (3rd barrier to sea) o Possible to flush Stem area o Instrumentation of interface annulus (Pressure) o Possible to Lock valve Stem open or closed

10 Future Requirements Rotational Valves interfaces: Large bore valves kNm to equalize pressure between export pipelines. Subsea Separation and processing requires large number of small bore valves with accurate operation. Linear Valves: Push, Pull, and precise stroke control of ROV connected stem Large bore and high pressure needs large/heavy spring Standard range of force and stroke alternatives Instrumentation: Multiple connection and disconnection Extreme environment (Temperature and Contamination) High number of wet connections in a complex variety Earth fault protection Semi permanent Tooling and future interaction with AUV s

11 Invitation to bring us one step forward Ifokus are willing to put all the knowledge in facilitating a study in order to bring Subsea one step closer to a open Interface We have helped StatoilHydro in their work with large Bore Valve interfaces, we are willing to expand on this and bring it into an open standard. XMT s and manifoilds needs to work towards the same standards. An electrical Actuator that is not bolted to a Valve does not need full XMT qualification. System builders will benefit from a common protocol We do have people we just need 1, 2 or 3 companies to commit to a Joint Industry Project in order to come up with a recommended solution.
