Every year since 1961, a panel of 70 independent and renowned experts taste and test products coming from around the world on a wide range of parameters. All our juries receive a scientific support to achieve accurate evaluations and coherent results. According to the results obtained, food, beverages, diet & health and cosmetic products receive Quality Awards that attest and indicate their level of quality to consumers. To this end, the award-winning products are granted a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Grand Gold Quality Award. The scientific and legal approach of the evaluation procedures is at the heart of the activity of the institute since its inception. Monde Selection has elaborated rigorous methodologies that go far beyond regular tastings or assessments. The methods are inspired by the European Directives and Regulations. Precise criteria s are defined for each type of product. Furthermore, and in order to have an objective judgment, products are not compared to one another and each sample is evaluated as a whole. 6 FOOD For the evaluation of food products, Monde Selection can count on the cooperation of eminent experts such as Michelin starred chefs, members of the Académie culinaire de France and other prestigious associations, internationally renowned pastry and chocolate makers, university professors, chemical engineers and nutrition consultants. Monde Selection s food jury goes beyond regular tastings, thanks to a scientific and legal approach during the evaluation process. It is therefore not a blind tasting but an overall analysis of the product quality. 8 SPIRITS & LIQUEURS The experience of the Jury, including some members that have been working for Monde Selection for over 25 years, is certainly the best guarantee of a good and fair assessment of the quality of your product. Monde Selection s alcohol jury is composed of internationally renowned oenologists, master sommeliers, oenology professors, chemical engineers and specialized press columnists. The jury is composed of a minimum of 8 experts that are selected with great care for their ability and are specialised in one or several spirits or liqueurs such as aguardiente, cognac, gin, kaoliang, makgeolli, rum, sake, vodka, whisky, etc. We wanted to boost our sales in Japan and it worked as they have tripled from the first year. 10 BEERS, WATERS, SOFT DRINKS For the evaluation of beers, waters and non-alcoholic beverages, Monde Selection collaborates with specialists of the Institut Meurice, Belgian s best experts in the field and worldwide renowned for its expertise. This professional jury consists of technicians, master brewers, chemical engineers and is famous for its knowledge in food science, biotechnology, brewing science and fermentation technology. The juries are requested to conduct necessary advanced chemical analyses in laboratory to complete the evaluation of products. 11 EVALUATION AREAS: The evaluation forms include various categories of parameters such as: Eye Nose Mouth Overall harmony Packaging Scientific analysis The above criteria enable the experts to go beyond the taste analysis and make therefore a more objective and overall judgment of the quality. For example, to properly assess a water, experts will not only analyze and control many chemical or biological parameters, but also evaluate its composition (minerals, PH, etc.) which may be subject to various standards in different countries and target audiences. DID YOU KNOW? The evaluation sessions are taking place during a period of four months at maximum 10 to 15 products per day. 11

12 DIET AND HEALTH The assessments of diet and health products are carried out by nutritionists, health consultants, chemists and university teachers with a strong experience in the field. Monde Selection works in collaboration with the international Euro Consultants Group, an agrofood and quality improvement specialist. In their judgements about the labelling and utilisation notice, judges bear in mind the philosophy of, among others, the European Directives, the prescriptions of the US Food and Drug Administration or the multiple laws of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan. The judges are permanently informed of the evolution of scientific researches and legislation on cosmetics and toiletries. To carry out the evaluation, they refer to official cosmetic regulations given by the European Directives on ingredients, labelling and utilisation notice. 14

18 ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY At the end of each edition of our World Quality Selections, Monde Selection has the honour to convey all awarded companies to a two days celebration in an emblematic European city. The diplomas, trophies and awards are handed over on stage during the Annual Awards Ceremony, in the presence of more than 500 personalities, including the jury presidents, the international press and ambassadors. The ceremony is followed by a prestigious Gala Dinner to celebrate the high quality achieved by the award-winning companies. This year, Monde Selection s 56 th Award Ceremony is to take place on the 29 th and the 30 th of May in Valletta, the capital of the Republic of Malta. On the following day, for the customers who wish to attend, Monde Selection organises a guided tour of the region. It is an excellent opportunity for all the partners to exchange useful information on quality and commercial development with other producers.
