2 How can we support you? Sheridan is a renowned leader in innovation through applied learning, creative vision and service excellence. Through the course of our evolution, Sheridan has also become a trusted partner and leader in applied research within both our local communities, Ontario and throughout Canada. This booklet provides an overview of the resources at Sheridan available for applied research and commercialization projects with community partners. Talent Highly-skilled, qualified people available to conduct applied research projects: Numerous researchers on call to conduct research projects in Centres of Expertise 14 applied research office staff available to facilitate research projects 100+ faculty experts available to participate in research projects highly-qualified, skilled students available to participate in research projects Sheridan offers a total square footage of approximately 50,000 square feet for applied research activity. 2 Sheridan Undergraduate Research Resources

Led by Dr. Darren Lawless, Dean of Undergraduate Research, the SURe team is dedicated to managing Sheridan s funded research, assisting faculty researchers with funding applications, and matching students and faculty with appropriate external partners who wish to engage in applied research projects. 5 The Screen Industries Research & Training Centre (SIRT) Pinewood Toronto Studios About SIRT As an educator of many Academy-award winners and nominees, Sheridan enjoys global recognition as a leader in the creative digital arts. With the support of committed industry partners and key funding from the federal and provincial governments, Sheridan formed the Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT) in SIRT is a direct response to the need for innovation and collaboration support in Ontario s digital media industry. Facilities 10,000 square-foot digital media sound stage Motion capture studio 2D and 3D digital cinema test and demo centre 20-seat training classroom with Apple imacs for mix-use training Research & Training Areas Digital workflow technologies and processes including virtual production/performance capture, Stereoscopic 3D (S3D), and High Frame Rate (HFR) cinema. 6 The Sheridan Elder Research Centre Sheridan Trafalgar Road Campus, Oakville About The Sheridan Centre for Elder Research opened as an interdisciplinary applied research centre in With the support of federal government funders, SERC researchers have created many industry, community and educational relationships that enhance the quality of life for older adults and their families. Drawing on Sheridan s talent, SERC has matured into a respected applied research centre that will celebrate its 10 th anniversary in Research Areas Creative and performing arts; technology and product design; the built environment; the business of aging Facilities The Elder Research Centre Internet Café for developing & testing software solutions accessible for all ages The Sheridan Elder Research Centre for Creative Aging The Business of Aging: Information Exchange Network High Perfomance Computing Sheridan is part of the Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computing Network (SHARCNET), a consortium of Canadian academic institutions that share a network of high performance computers. With this infrastructure we enable world-class academic research, exploring how HPC can help solve highly complex problems, perform business critical analyses, or to run computationally intensive workloads that are in scale far beyond the tasks that could be achieved on today s leading desktop systems. 6 Sheridan Undergraduate Research Resources
7 The Centre for Advanced Manufacuturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT) Sheridan Davis Campus, Brampton Specialized Equipment The Faculty of Applied Science and Technology s Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT) has been integral to the success of numerous Sheridan applied research projects that helped local small- and medium-sized manufacturers improve their processes, enhance their facilities, and advance their products. In February 2013, FAST unveiled new state-of-theart 3D production systems at CAMDT s product innovation facility that will enable significant applied research and industry support in the field of additive manufacturing. The Centre was expanded again in 2014 with the launch of the CAMDT-ABB Robotics Centre. Facilities 28,000 square-foot state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing facility (CAD/ CAM; solid modeling; 3D prototyping; 3D production; automation/control; robotics; energy management) 18 ABB robots capable of gripping, picking, vacuum, welding, and more. Model numbers: ABB IRB 120, IRB 1200, IRB 1200, flex trainer; IRB 140, IRB 1400, IRB 1400 welding robot, IRB 360 flex picker Prototyping equipment including: ZCorp and Dimension-Stratasys 3D Printers Advanced 3D production equipment including: Fortus 900mc and Fortus 400mc rapid production machines and Finishing Touch machine (surface sealing, deposition and painting) Waterjet and laser cutting systems Energy auditing, measurement and verification equipment Advanced data collection systems: Bradley, OMRON and Siemens PLCs Solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems Wind turbine systems Quality assurance equipment Mobile applications development software Thermoforming Pressure mapping Pressure and force measurement systems for R&D, testing, and quality assurance Sheridan Undergraduate Research Resources 7
