The security of any nation depends on military, army, air-force & navy of country and the backbone of all these forces are our soldier. One of the fundamental charges in military operations lies in that soldier not able to communicate with control room station. In this project the exact location and health status parameter of soldier can be send to base station in real time.so that the appropriate action can be taken in case of crisis. GPS is used to log the longitude and latitude so that direction can be known easily. Here the different sensors like temperature sensor, heartbeat sensor, gas sensor, pressure sensor are used to measure the different parameters of the body. And also some microcontrollers are directly used to make the desired process in an effective manner. The IOT makes the entire monitoring process efficient, fast and decision can be taken in the less amount of time and the information is stored over the cloud which is highly securable. So by using these equipment we are trying to implement the basic life guarding system for soldier in low cost and high reliability. Index terms: IOT, GPS, Raspberry pi, Arduino. 2 1.INTRODUCTION The combined unit of Hardware and software constitute an Embedded System which is also integrated together to build a system which helps in design goals like speed and efficiency. The main advantage of embedded systems is the flexibility to choose desired hardware and software components to design the desired system which performs the desired task. This project is based on the above mentioned merits of the embedded system. There is a necessity to develop a wearable technology which isn t bulky and dissipates very little power in the defence sector so that the location and vital health parameters of the soldiers can be tracked in real time when he is on the battlefield. Using this Soldier Navigation system the base station can guide the soldier to reach the desired destination. The main essence of this project is that it is an Internet of Things (IOT) based project. IOT systems are systems that consist of interrelated machines(mechanical or digital), computing devices, animals, peoples and other objects which have unique functionalities and using the IOT their data can be transferred from one place to another over the network without the computer to computer and human to computer intervention. The relevance of IOT in Soldier Navigation and Health Recording system is that the real time location and health parameters of the soldier on the battlefield are instantaneously sent to the base station without the soldier having to input anything. The IOT makes the entire monitoring process fast, efficient and the decisions can be taken in less amount of time. The Raspberry Pi 3 is used as a gateway for displaying the sensor values over a server known as Things peak. Also, Raspberry Pi 3 gives better protection and isolation from stray intrusion. 2. EXISTING WORK In the existing system they won t monitor the soldier when they are in border. If they injured by something means, it cannot be identified and cannot give any treatment to the soldier. In that case some peoples also die due to loss of treatment. In an existing system they send the data through Zigbee which transmits the data around 3.1 km only and GSM module, ARM processor etc.., 3. PROPOSED WORK In the proposed project we are going to monitor the soldier using IOT. The body temperature sensor is used to measure the temperature of the soldier. 3 heart beat sensor is used to measure the heartbeat.when it is go high, it automatically send the alert message to the authenticated person. Pressure sensor is used to identify the pressure of the place. Gas sensor is also used to identify the poisonous gas and environment condition. The GPS is used to identify the location of the person when they are injured. The transferred data is saved in cloud in real time. Block Diagram: Figure.1 Block Diagram System Architecture: 1.Arduino: An Arduino is actually a microcontroller based kit. Arduino processor basically uses the Harvard architecture where the program code and program data have separate memory. It consists of two memories- Program memory and the data memory. The code is stored in the flash program memory, whereas the data is stored in the data memory. The Atmega328 has 32 KB of flash memory for storing code (of which 0.5 KB is used for the boot loader), 2 KB of SRAM and 1 KB of EEPROM and operates with a clock speed of 16MHz. 2.Raspberry Pi: It is a dynamic micro controller which runs with the python programming language and raspberry pi based data monitoring system is designed as the pi is an arm based system and provides high speed better accuracy and good flexibility. Sensors and arduino board is used to serially transmit the data to the pi. Journal of Innovation in Science and Engineering Research Page 651

4 3.GPS: The GPS unit is installed in addressing system so that base camp can track their movements and real time information in all weather, at all times form anywhere on globe. 4. Bio-Medical sensors: Here, the sensors like temperature, pressure, heartbeat, gas sensors are used to record the health condition of the soldier in the desired manner and transfer the data to the base station. 5. Cloud: Cloud storage is a model of data storage in which the digital data is stored in logical pools, the physical storage spans multiple servers (and often locations). These cloud storage providers are responsible for keeping the data available and accessible, and the physical environment protected and running. People and organizations buy or lease storage capacity from the providers to store user, organization, or application data. 5 Raspberry Pi interfaced with Arduino and LCD display: Below is the Raspberry Pi Serial Communication code. Upload serial test.ino code to your Arduino (Mine Arduino Uno Rev3), Run serial_test.py Python code in Raspberry PI, Connect Arduino to Raspberry Pi and to LCD display through USB cable, and then it will have no problems. Figure.4 Figure.5 Interfacing Arduino with bio sensors: Figure.6 Figure.7 The sensors which are directly connected with Arduino where it cannot be connected directly with raspberry pi due to the ADC conversion which takes place in it. The Arduino is used here for the effective way of serial data transfer to the raspberry pi by means of using IOT the desired data of the soldier is transferred to the base station from where the necessary actions take place to save the life of the soldier. 6 4.RESULT Necessity for the army base station to identify the health status of the soldier and his surroundings is a must for soldiers behind enemy lines. Tracking the location of soldier may help him if he s off course and blind navigating. Monitoring health parameters gives us assurance of the soldier s safety and his environment. Both of them together might assist rescue operations and guidance of an injured soldier. From the literature survey it was found out that most of the systems used require a lot of space and some were bulky depending on various microcontrollers or technologies used. There were few systems which used the processing power of newer systems like Raspberry Pi and Arduino, which are also easier to program and more focused on implementing ideas rather than supporting circuitry. The output observed on the mobile or base station s computer. Figure.8 Figure.9 5.CONCLUSION The paper reports an IOT based system for the health recording and navigation of the soldiers. Aurdino board is used which is a low cost solution for the possessing purpose. Biomedical sensors provides heartbeat, pressure, body temperature, and environmental parameters of every soldier to control room. This technology can be helpful to provide the accurate location of missing soldier in critical condition and overcome the drawback of soldiers Journal of Innovation in Science and Engineering Research Page 654

7 missing in action. The addressing system is also helpful to improve the communication between soldier to soldier in emergency situation and provide proper navigation to control room. Thus we can conclude that this system will act as a lifeguard to the army personnel of all over the globe. In future, a portable handheld sensor device with more sensing options may be developed to aid the soldiers.
