Co-create a system that strengthens the sources of wellbeing, both individually and collectively Many people around the world are working on truly sustainable projects at both small and large scale. Positive solutions are being created with proven results, yet exist for the most part isolated and unconnected. Imagine if we could connect these efforts and people so that we might successfully collaborate and collectively work towards an economy that generates wellbeing for all. In this time of upheaval and unprecedented change, the challenges we face are highly interrelated. No individual or institution can solve them alone. We need cross-sector infrastructures that support a true innovation ecology. 4.0 Lab s key idea is very simple: to strengthen the next wave of systemic innovation in five core areas of our society: Food, Finance, Health, Learning, and.
4.0 Lab is......a one-year innovation journey that incorporates in-person meetings, sensing activities, and an online infrastructure that supports collaboration, peer learning, and co-creation. Co-initiated by the Presencing Institute, 4.0 Lab will include and connect key stake holders and innovators who need each other to transform the systems they operate within. Innovators will work together across sectors to explore new modes of cooperation and invent new forms of learning and wellbeing. Through the Presencing Institute and its infrastructure, these initiatives will be professionally supported and made accessible and mediavisible, becoming pacesetters in a collective global movement of change. An invitation to join this 4.0 Lab We invite you and key players in your organization or initiative to join this lab, as a team (2-3 people). It is also possible to participate as an individual. Join us if your organization/initiative operates in any of these areas: Food, Finance, Health, Education or in Europe, and if your team wants to: Be drivers of change Move initiatives from idea to action Take your organization and/or project to the next level Work across sectors Step into/explore new territories of change Together, the participants will co-create: a shared vision and intention, a shared narrative, innovative actions and prototypes, inspiring case stories, and holding spaces that generate wellbeing for all. Imagine......a journey based on the that brings awareness-based systems change and key practitioners together to tackle their specific challenges. Together they co-create a vibrant innovation ecology of cross-sectoral initiatives and prototypes. 2/6
Timeline Phase 1: Seeding 1 March June 2019 Eco-system Foundation Program (3 days in Berlin) Immersion and engagement in several innovation initiatives Sensing activities: learning journeys, shadowing, stakeholder dialogues (self-organized) Online and offline sessions to advance participants initiatives Phase 2: Cultivating 2 June November 2019 Prototyping: exploring the future by doing Peer Learning: creating generative holding spaces Regional Workshops: learning from each other, activating regional innovation ecologies 3 Phase 3 Harvesting November 2019 March 2020 Presenting prototype initiatives at Berlin Global Forum for Societal Transformation Moving from prototyping to policy & up-/deep-scaling Advancing the prototypes and supporting inter-regional innovation ecologies Strengthening skills and tools for up-/deep-scaling Capturing and sharing what has been learned Each phase will be supported by online and offline activities that enable participants to learn while applying and apply while learning. This new community of co-creation, where participants meet, learn, and work together, is designed to continue and grow, well after the formal ending of the lab cycle. 3/6
What is 4.0? This refers to the four Stages of Systems Evolution. If we look at our society as a system, we see how societal systems evolve in stages, according different levels of consciousness or awareness. 4.0 refers to eco-system awareness: In the emerging 4.0 stage of your society, the natural self interest of the players extends to a shared awareness of the whole ecosystem. The result is decisions and outcomes that benefit the wellbeing of the whole system, not just my own part of it. Four Stages of Systems Evolution: Four Operating Systems (OS) OS Health Learning Farm/Food Finance Corp. Resp. 1.0: Input and authoritycentric Tratitional doctor-centric medicine Traditional teacher-centric Traditional farmer-centric Traditional Financial Capital Level 1: Alleviating projects 2.0: Output and efficiencycentric Evidence based medicine Testing: Bulemia learning fast in, fast out Industrial agriculture: monoculture Extractive Capital: externality blind Level 2: Corporate practices 3.0: Outcomeand user-centric Patient-centric medicine Learner- centric Organic Ag: reduce negative footprint Impact Investing: externality aware Level 3: Business innovation 4.0: Co-creative and ecosystem-centric Strengthening sources of well-being Activate deep sources of learning Food as medium for healing planet and people Generative Capital: Systems Transformation Level 4: Purpose driven (business as a movement) For more information 4/6
Costs and Contribution Participating in this lab requires time, energy and dedication. We welcome your curiosity, interest, and engagement! For best systemic impact, we will give attention to broadest representation from the whole system (big and small organizations, entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, etc ) and whatever added contribution you might bring - your knowledge, skills, network, placement, dreams and ambitions. We seek to create a fair system of mutual support, which includes capacity to cover costs. So, larger organizations help support smaller non-profit ones, for the balance of costs as well as the support by Software Stiftung. Participation: EUR 9, per person; Regular Rate EUR 5, per person; Non-Profit Rate Includes 19% VAT, all module meals, course materials and in-between support. Limited scholarships are available on request. Refunds are not possible after 31Jan The Presencing Institute (PI) was founded in the United States in 2006 and in Europe in 2012, with the aim of developing social technologies that enable change makers and social-ecological innovators to effectively address the challenges we face. PI works in the following areas: Management of change processes in all sectors from non-profits to businesses, organizations and governments; Research, development, and publication of process tools and awareness-based social technologies; New online and offline learning environments for change makers; New multimedia platforms for transformation of the economy (from egosystem to ecosystem awareness and action). This program is organized and hosted by PI Europe ggmbh Note: Participants cover their own travel and accommodation costs. The 12-month journey includes: four in-person modules regular webinar / online sessions peer learning and supervision process support Module I: March 10 (dinner) - March 13 (lunch), 2019 Module II: June 17 (dinner) - June 20 (lunch), 2019 Module III: November 12 (lunch) - Nov. 13 (dinner), 2019 Module IV: March 9 (dinner) - March 11 (afternoon), 2020 All modules take place in or near Berlin.
