14 FEE/Detailed Design Offshore wind turbine foundations: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) De-risking parameter: WAVE ACTION Non-linear extreme waves: recent experiences from offshore projects have highlighted that regular waves are not sufficient; Formulas to describe wave run-up exist for monopiles, but not available for more complex structures; Wave run-up and slamming Wave slamming or breaking waves occur more often than previously assumed. For a sea state with 2000 waves 2-3 of them will break and these might not be the largest ones; 14

An example of metocean data simulated for the typhoon Dujuan passing Taiwan in September 2015 calibrated against wind speed and direction, Fuhai. For this event it is observed that wind and waves are correlated but that the water level peaks 4 hours later. 15
