ITF Subsea Processing Initiative Ian McCabe - Technology Project Team Leader
Scope Background to ITF Membership The Collaborative Technology Space Why ITF? Subsea Processing Initiative Low Cost Separator Study Subsea Processing Network Subsea Produced Water Quality Standards Questions
ITF Background Our Purpose: Create value for our members by facilitating collaborative technology development and deployment within the global oil and gas industry We work with our members and industry to: Identify the key areas where technology is required to address common industry opportunities and challenges Set their regional strategic technology priorities Execute collaborative projects & initiatives Formed in more than 200 Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) launched Over 20 ongoing Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) with direct member investment of circa 16m most recent launch; 1.9m, cyclone prediction system A not-for-profit organisation owned by our members
Current ITF Members
ITF Background 2014 Project Launches Flow Assurance Produced Water Treatment Pipelines Structural Geology Geophysics Cyclone prediction RIBFAT Risk Based Flow Assurance Toolkit; Phase 2 Osorb - Technoeconomic evaluation, design & construction of an offshore Osorb regeneration package MOBILEspan Modelling & prediction tool for mobile seabed & free span behaviour - Phase 2 ABC Answering the Basalt Challenge; feasibility Study QUAFF Quantification of 3D Fault Zone Geometries & their incorporation in modelling practice ABOM Improvements to Tropical Cyclone Forecasting, North West Australia
Subsea Processing 3 Initiatives Low Cost Separator Study Produced Water Quality Standards Subsea Processing Network
Subsea Processing Topic Identification & Validation Subsea processing identified as a key area of interest by members as part of the development of ITF s subsea roadmap. Topic ID & Validation Workshops/ Member Consultation/ ID Champions & discrete workstreams Proposal - Front End Design Call For Proposal Execution Developer submissions/ Due diligence/ Member Review & Selection Commercial & Contract Negotiation Project Launch Consultation Process & Workshop ITF members noted that the uptake of subsea processing technologies has been growing; scope for further growth. Work-streams Identified - 3 initiated by January Weeks
Low Cost Separator Study Member Identified Challenges Study Aims Perceived lack of technical solutions suitable for mature/ marginal fields Removal of topside processing capacity bottlenecks; specifically focused on North Sea / shallow High water-cuts water scenarios and restricted top-side processing capacity Compare needs with currently available technologies & vendor development plans Understand operators technical needs Estimate market size for outline functional specification combined with a cost target Shape a detailed separator system functional specification & act as a catalyst for the development of attractive solutions. Current Status: 7 high quality proposals submitted to ITF; UK & international developers Multi-stage review process complete; preferred study proposal identified Potential sponsors assessing funding appetite
Produced Water Quality Call for proposals: Review of the current methodologies used to determine the quality requirements for subsea produced water (post subsea separation) used for re-injection. Objectives: Inform and support the development of appropriate methodologies to define water quality standards for subsea PWRI. Contribution to: Reducing the over-engineering of subsea separation equipment. Minimising the risk of reservoir or injection system damage. Supporting the development of continuous subsea water quality measurement instruments. Selection of disposal solution The challenge: Subsea separated Produced Water management Definition of required quality and standards
Subsea Processing Network Who? Designed for companies with an active interest in subsea processing technology development & implementation What? Network members should have a desire to undertake collaborative dialogue & shared activities Initial focus on reliability & qualification issues, potentially expanding to other areas later Network formulated as a JIP, facilitated & managed by ITF, in collaboration with INTECSEA Objective Deliver benefit to members by creating collaborative solutions to common critical subsea processing reliability & qualification issues Facilitate Access to Onshore SS Test Facilities SSP Reliability Issues Facilitate Access to Onshore SS Test Facilities API 17Q Completion to Improve Qualification Processes SSP Qualification Issues Identification of Potential Vendor Solutions Exact content defined by members Shared SSP Lessons Learned Facilitate Access to Pilot Fields for Testing
Summary Our Purpose: Create value for our members by facilitating collaborative technology development and deployment within the global oil and gas industry 2014 Subsea processing theme: ITF member driven initiative 3 work-streams: low cost separator study; subsea processing network; review of produced water quality standards for PWRI Programme Potential call related to PW quality continuous measurement equipment Integrity theme launch Q Aim: To bring benefits to the oil & gas industry through the launch of collaborative technology projects
