Definitions: "Conflict of interest" means any situation where an individual has an interest that may compromise or be reasonably perceived to compromise the individual s capacity to act independently and in the public interest when providing advice to the Commission in relation to the subject of the work performed by the Scientific Committees and their working groups in question. "Immediate family member" means the individual s spouse, children and parents. "Spouse" includes a partner with whom the individual has a registered non marital regime. "Children" means the child(ren) the individual and the spouse have in common, the own child(ren) of the individual and the own child(ren) of the spouse. "Legal entity" means any commercial business, industry association, consultancy, research institution or other enterprise whose funding is significantly derived from commercial sources. It also includes independent own commercial businesses, law offices, consultancies or similar. "Body" means a governmental, international or non-profit organisation. 4 appropriate when account is taken of the mode of action (e.g. mutagenic or not) and knowledge on human relevance. This project will describe a sciencebased and pragmatic approach to strengthening the scientific underpinnings of the cancer-based TTC tier. The resulting manuscript intended to be submitted for publication in 2016 at the end of the activities. 11 Supervisor of ECHA Tender Mapping Study on Academic courses relevant to REACH and CLP Project Leader of "Toxicity of biomass combustion generated ultrafine particles(tobicup)", Cariplo Foundation 2011 (1Year) ECHA (3Years) FONDAZIONE CARIPLO The increased use of biomass as fuel for heat generation raises the question of the potential toxic effects of particulate matter generated during combustion. As fine (< 2.5 μm) and nanoparticles or ultrafine particles (< 0.1 μm) are associated with stronger health effects than larger particles, the goals of this project have been: 1. to collect ultrafine particles generated from wood combustion from commercially available appliances (logwood stove and wood pellet stove). 2. to characterize the physicalchemical properties of ultrafine particles generated from

12 logwood and pellet combustion, including their chemical composition, the number, concentration levels and related size distribution, and to assess the emission factors for the investigated appliances. 3. to sample and chemically characterize ultrafine particles in the atmosphere of a natural mesoenvironment characterized by relevant particulate emissions from biomass burning. 4. to characterize the toxicological properties of ultrafine particles generated from wood combustion by assessing cell damage, genotoxicity and production of inflammatory mediators as biological markers of cell activation in relevant human cells.
