3 . URO OF TH XAMINATION The History of Québec and anada examination assesses student achievement in this course for the purpose of certifying secondary studies. The examination is developed by the Ministère (Direction de la formation générale des jeunes) and is intended for students enrolled in History of Québec and anada The examination is an official evaluation of the student's acquisition of the concepts and skills outlined in the History of Québec and anada program. It also provides a means of gathering statistical data on student achievement. The Ministère will publish the data for the province of Québec as a whole, for each administrative region and for each school board.. ONTNT OF TH XAMINATION. Definition of the Domain The examination is based on the Definition of the Domain (Information Document A - April 993) and the Table of Dimensions contained therein. A column entitled Recurrent Themes, containing two dimensions, D and D, has been added to the Table of Dimensions on page 3 below. Recurrent themes are topics dealt with in more than one module, topics that recur in the history of Québec and anada, and that could not be evaluated in a single dimension. The modules and related content will be weighted as in the definition of the domain.. Modifications of Module 7.3 The June 00, August 00 and January 003 examinations will take into account the modifications made to Objective 7.3, To discuss some of the major issues that have had an impact on Québec society since the Quiet Revolution.

6 .3 Number of Questions The examination consists of 30 questions that evaluate the student's competency in relation to the entire History of Québec and anada program. Table is used as a basis for determining the number of questions that will be used to test a particular skill or area of knowledge. The following tables outline this distribution. 7 .4 Distribution of the Questions among the Dimensions Table 4 presents the distribution of the questions among the dimensions. For the June 00, August 00 and January 003 sessions, the student will be evaluated on all the dimensions that appear in Table 4. The other numbers indicate the number of questions per dimension. * This question will replace one of the 5 questions measuring the skill of analyzing or one of the 6 questions measuring the skill of synthesizing. 3. TY OF QUTION AND U OF DOUMNT The examination is made up of two types of questions: Multiple-choice questions: (answer chosen from among four suggestions) Questions requiring short written answers: 8 tandards required to obtain marks are stated for some of these questions. Documents such as texts, pictures, graphs, tables and cartoons will be used primarily in questions that test the skills of analyzing and synthesizing. However, maps and time lines may be used in questions that test the skill of describing. 5

FORMAT OF TH XAMINATION The examination is presented in two parts: art A: multiple choice questions art B: questions requiring short written answers These two parts are contained in the student's question booklet, with each part respecting historical chronology. For art A the student must use a pre-identified answer sheet, and for art B the student must respond in the answer booklet provided. 5. DAT AND DURATION OF TH XAMINATION The date of the June 00 examination will be published in Info/anction no. 339, and the dates of the August 00 and January 003 examinations will be published in Info/anction no. 35. The duration of the examination is two hours. 6. ORRTION OF TH XAMINATION The examination is corrected in the following manner: art A: orrection is the responsibility of the Ministère, except for the August examination, which is corrected by the school board or private school. art B: orrection is the responsibility of the school board or private school; a marking guide and the necessary instructions are provided by the Ministère. ach item in art A is worth 3.45 marks and each item in art B, 3 marks. 7. AUTHORIZD MATRIAL Any tables, maps, graphs, charts or illustrations necessary to carry out the required tasks are provided in the examination. The use of dictionaries, textbooks or other documents, including course notes, is not permitted. 6

11 ANDIX II INTLLTUAL KILL AND OBRVABL BHAVIOUR DRIBIN Describing: usually with the help of historical documents, listing the components (characteristics, time and space factors) of an episode in history. This skill is demonstrated by the following observable behaviours: A) describing an episode in history in terms of a single aspect of society (political, economic, social, cultural or geographic); B) situating in time an episode in history by arranging its elements in chronological order or placing it on a time line; ) situating in space an episode in history by locating it or circumscribing it on a map. ANALYZIN Analyzing: usually with the help of historical documents, establishing a causal relationship, or one of similarity, contrast, continuity or change, between the elements of an episode in history, or between the different aspects of society connected with an episode of history. This skill is demonstrated by the following observable behaviours: A) specifying the causes and effects of an event or turning point in history; B) identifying elements of continuity or change between the events at one or several turning points in history; ) comparing or contrasting several interpretations or versions of an event or turning point in history. The interpretations may be made by historians, observers, or people who actually participated in these events; D) identifying the relationship between two aspects of society during a turning point in history. 9
12 YNTHIZIN ynthesizing: usually with the help of historical documents, presenting as a whole the major components of a historical phenomenon (turning point or society) that are related. This skill is demonstrated by the following observable behaviours: A) describing different aspects of the organization of a society at a given point in time; B) describing the development of a turning point in history by showing how the different stages are linked together; ) describing the evolution of a society in terms of one or more of its aspects in one or more periods. 0
