Intelligent neighbourhood Energy Allocation & Supervision EU FP7 funded R&D project 8 Partners from the EU & Israel Just over 4 million euros 3 years Nov 2012 Dec IDEAS Partners Teesside University, UK Technical Research Centre of Finland, Finland Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment, France IBM Israel Science & Technology Ltd, Israel NOBATEK, France Porvoon kaupunki, Finland Porvoon Energia Oy, Finland Compagnie IBM France SA, France 7
CONCLUSIONS Key RTD Demonstrate how energy positive neighbourhoods can be cost effectively & incrementally implemented by designing & validating A Neighbourhood energy management tool to optimise energy production & consumption User interfaces that engage communities & individuals in the operation of energy positive neighbourhoods A Decision support urban planning tool to optimise the planning of neighbourhood energy infrastructures Business models that support the incremental rollout of the physical, social & regulatory infrastructures required Demonstration sites The tools and business models developed are currently demonstrated in two neighbourhoods: a newly built residential area in Finland a University campus in France 8
Visualization tools for achieving goals of energy efficiency and energy consumption reduction These visualization tools include: An augmented reality based home energy app running on handheld device A 3D virtual world which is replica of the Bordeaux University buildings and which displays energy related information in real-time A graphical application running on large screens in public areas of office buildings These visualization tools are currently being tested in two pilot sites in France and Finland Augmented reality based home energy app running on hand-held device Uses object recognition to recognize home appliances Display the recognized appliance in an augmented reality environment Display energy related information and notifications for the users in the augmented reality environment 9
Task T4.3: Augmented Reality Technology IDEAS The Augmented Reality Technology Novel Computer Vision algorithms for recognition of untagged specific appliances at home Runs in real-time on standard hand held tablet Connection to the home energy metering system to show real time energy consumption Connection to the Energy management system to show EPN energy consumption and simulated production 10
Augmented reality based home energy app running on hand-held device IDEAS A replica 3D virtual world of Bordeaux University buildings A 3D replica virtual world of Bordeaux university buildings have been developed Energy consumption of Bordeaux university buildings and renewable energy generation onsite is displayed in realtime within the virtual world Remote users can learn more about the energy consumption and renewable energy generation in the virtual world 11
IDEAS - Connection to the EMS enables display of real-time measured and simulated energy information related to specific items 12
Conclusions Virtual Reality application in construction has been growing fast and the business case is being made. Construction processes are not only about design and construction. The future R&D will be focusing on utilising VR in the areas: real-time information feed, internet of things and big data with the use of hololens and other innovative devices. The business case has to be substantial and compelling 13
