5 Vocabulary Manufacturing- factories mass producing goods Monopoly- a company that has complete control over one industry (Example: Rockefeller in the Oil Industry) Urbanization- the migration of people into cities where there were factory jobs Assembly Line- used by Henry Ford, each person has a specific job and it moves down the line Progressive Movement- a social and political movement to help the problems that were caused by manufacturing and urbanization Suffrage- the right to vote

11 How were factories improved during the Industrial Revolution?

12 Background 7s During the 2 nd Industrial Revolution, new factories began emerging in cities throughout the United States As DEMAND for items grew, PRODUCTION needed to increase Now, items were available to everyday people, not just the wealthy Factories took years to improve upon their functioning and that brings us to our simulation today

13 Factory Simulation- Reba s Sweet Treats Expectations: LISTEN to directions FOLLOW the directions your factory is given Stay in your factory Do not take the PRODUCTS! 14 Creating your Sweet Treat Bags! Each FACTORY has a different method of creating their goody bags First you must select your OVERSEER and/or INSPECTOR The overseer will get your factory s directions and read them aloud Remember to follow directions! You cannot stray from your factories production rules When a goodie bag is completed, the INSPECTOR will inspect the bag and submit it to the crate for DISTRIBUTION. Inspectors/Overseers, keep count of how many bags have been completed on your POST IT IF A BAG IS NOT COMPLETED TO FACTORY STANDARDS: the inspector will return the contents to the pile and the bag Begin on the Factory whistle
