8 Wind energy is 2 nd largest power generator in Europe 21 st April 2017 was first day without coal as a fuel for generation in the UK since the industrial revolution.

9 UK is location of largest investment in wind 20% of the entire UK's infrastructure construction contract value in 2016 came from offshore wind ( 4bn out of 20bn).

10 UK offshore wind will exceed 10GW by 2020 Wind energy produced over 10% of UK electricity in UK offshore wind capacity will exceed 10GW by 2020

44 Challenge example: Corrosion EDF sets corrosion challenge (with Innovate UK) 10,000 on offer for inspection and corrosion mitigation in monopile foundations offshore Corrosion within monopile foundations is a cause for concern for offshore wind farms. The main problem is a deviation from the original design assumptions made for early offshore wind farm projects. This predicted that the inside of the monopile would be completely air and water-tight, said EDF. Issues: Confined space Hydrogen Sulphide Source: ReNews 19th July 2016
