2 Unit 4 Investigations Unit description The focus for this unit is Investigations, My Home. This unit aims to build on your research and explorations from the previous unit, investigating theme, ideas and issues which are relating t the Kalgoorlie Boulder community and the wider Goldfields region. You will explore and develop ideas through the investigation of different artists, art forms, processes and technologies. You will investigate spontaneous and analytical styles of drawing, experimenting with a range of media and techniques. You will also further develop your knowledge and understanding of visual language and apply this to both art making and art interpretation. In particular, you will explore the expressive potential of media techniques and processes, considering their inherent qualities in the development and presentation of their artworks. Investigate ways to document your thinking and working practices, is an important aspect of this final unit to help refine your reflection and decisionmaking skills. What is investigation? Investigation can be defined as the action of investigating something or someone; formal or systematic examination or research. Through research you will investigate a range of topics, ideas, issues and concepts relevant to the Kalgoorlie Boulder and wider Goldfields area. What concepts can I explore There is an infinite number of subjects, ideas and issues which you could investigate. Below are some suggested contexts which you could explore, but are not limited to. concepts: a sense of place: myth and reality, objects, illusion, symbolism, dreams and imagination styles and approaches: postmodern, traditional and/or contemporary art practice, art as record, illustration, art styles and media use materials: glass, oil and acrylics, found objects, digital media meanings and messages: issues of personal interest and passion, exploration of universal issues, such as poverty, comics, art as social comment, anatomical studies What materials will I need for Art? A4 display folder for worksheets and handouts Hard cover visual diary/sketchbook (these can be purchased at Kmart, Woolworths, Red Dot, Reject Shop) 2B pencils Black fine liner pen One Note

3 Written Practical Assessment Through a range of assessment, you will develop skills to help you deconstruct, analyse and interpret your own work and the work of other artists. You will learn how artists develop ideas through a range of processes, in order to achieve their aim of presenting issues and ideas to challenge viewers. You will learn the elements and principles of art, which are the foundations of visual language, how these are utilised in a range of artworks and how you can utilise them yourself.
